Thinking about giving a 4h a go to help get my approaches onto greens in the 200-210 yard range a little more height and spin, plus some more forgiveness on the bad hits.

Driver around 110 or so and I'm in modus 120 shafts, so I'm probably looking for something around 100g. Right now I'm thinking tensei pro white 100x or tz5, possibly straight in (soft stepped). Ideally stiffer tipped softer mid set ups.

What set ups have you gone with and what has or hasn't worked, and why?

titleist 913 21* 82 gram blueboard has been the most consistent club in my bag for close to 7 years, by consistent it never left the bag. perfect for that 200 yard range.

i didn't want to change it out but i got a 816 head and just put it right into the same shaft about 1 month ago.

its not as nice as the 913 looking but it performs the same, i just miss the 913 but after all those years it needed to be retired.

And it didn't feel too light for you? I worry if things get too light feeling ill be prone to hooks.

Same situation for me Ziggy. My last driver session on Trackman was a 108.8 average. I went with a TZ5 95HB M4 tipped 2.25 and plays @ 39.5" in a Exotics CBX 22*. I tried the M5 but couldn't get the height I was after. This is the first time in over a decade I've used a different hybrid shaft than an old Fuji Speeder 904HB.

21-22 degree hybrid isnt crazy with the right shaft no matter swing speed. I have a 20 degree hybrid I launch pretty low with a 95g D+.

Could easily use a 22 degree if I wanted with no problems

915h 24* s+ 90 stiff. If you like hybrids I find it much more versatile than a 4i, and way better out of the rough. 215-220 with a draw 205 straight no problem. Never going back to a 4iron

I’m not as fast as you, but I have an older Cobra DWS 4 hybrid with a Nippon 950 steel shaft that came stock. It’s my most consistent club in the bag.

This is my main thought.... In the deeper rough my home courseets grow out in summer, shorter par 5 or long par 4 from the rough become a nightmare of I need to pull 4i,even at my speeds. I feel like a hybrid can help me out of nasty lies better.

@nitram did you try the m5 flex but tipped less? I use m4 flex in my driver actually as m5 just wasnt giving me great results. I wonder though in a heavier head like a 4h if I could get away with m5 flex but maybe play it straight in.

    I got a 4 hybrid because my irons didn't offer a 4 iron (CB-2008)

Went with the M6 with Aldila Rogue Black 85 and it does exactly what you're looking for. 200-210 with enough height and stopping power. Would recommend. Likely have to find used or in store as I believe you can't order them off T-Mades site right now.

I think the 818 H1 I have is technically a 4H. I have it lofted down to 20 degrees and have it in a 3H length shaft. Fits in nicely between my 3wood and 4 iron.

I was fitted into a 22 degree sim max hybrid at the kingdom with a Fuji pro 2.0 8X shaft. Similar to you im around 110 swing speed with the driver and was consistent with the 4 hybrid around the 205-210 mark.

Nice! I was actually thinking about going Sim but figured the 818 would be about as good but for 20% the cost. I will look into the fuji though... Sounds like guys aren't having issues going with ~85g shafts despite having more speed.

I tried the M5 with no tipping. It still felt smooth and it definitely took the left side out of the equation. I just couldn't hit it higher than 65 ft off the ground and was needing to be more 85-95-ish. After talking to 2 different Accra certified fitters I initially went with 2.00" tipping for evaluation and ended up the extra .25 in the end with the M4.

The day my G25 4 hybrid breaks is the day I mourn the loss of a dear friend.

Perfect swings might be rewarded with more accuracy from an iron, but it’s nearly impossible to hit a bad shot with the G25, and I can hit every shot with it.

I am a fairly high launch guy and have been considering the same with similar swing speed. However, last time out I was faced with a 120 punch under and around a large tree and the 4-iron low punch gave me a shot at birdie so I’m hesitating.

Sorry it was a d+ 90 stiff...I average 9.5 gir and still feel I have no business hitting an iron to a green 200+ out, find one that fits your gap and doesnt hook ( if you have that problem) and you'll be happy

I'm ~108 w/ driver...not sure if that qualifies me as a faster guy or not...

I broke the shaft in my 4i hitting a punch from under a pine tree last season and didn't bother getting it fixed. I never hit a 4i especially well and really only used it once every 3 or 4 rounds.

Long story short, the shaft (xp 115) is discontinued, so I picked up a used 816 H1 4h that I'm going to give for a whirl this coming season. My irons are long in the tooth for a WRXer (850 Forged), so if it doesn't work out, I'll probably just replace my 4 - PW, haha.

SS about the same as OP. I had a 4h for awhile and liked it. However I had to abandon it because I frequently had to use it on a couple of long par 3s with elevated tees on my home course. It would get up too high and the wind would wreak havoc.

Great off the deck, especially from the rough.

I'm 105-108mph. I typically play a 4H or DI depending on course. I definitely prefer a 4i or 23˚ DI off the tee, especially for a par 3. Anywhere past the tee a hybrid is much more useful. They can be a great tool around the green, too.

If I do drop the 4h for an iron, I will usually drop the 5w for a 3h.

    I’m 110-115 with driver.

My 4H goes 215 on a smooth swing with a high, dead straight flight. My 3H goes around 230 but is more penetrating of course.

I dropped the 4i several years ago after getting a 4H as an experiment during sloppy winter golf and then falling in love with it. My 3H and 4H are exact clones as I built them both.

One of the easiest rounds of golf I had was when I had 19* 23* and 27* hybrids in the bag, and my irons started at the 6-iron. I am a longer hitter, around 98-99mph with a 7-iron. Long irons are more one dimensional and never go as high as easily as I would like. High lofted hybrids are as easy as hitting wedges IMO.

I’d highly recommend trying a 4H before buying. I went in to the store last week with all intents on buying a 4H to replace my 4 iron. Walked out with a U510 4 iron instead. So much more consistent for me and I couldn’t stand seeing that much loft on a hybrid. Definitely try before you buy!

my bag goes driver 2H, 4i, 5H, 6h 6i, driver is 110-115 mph, but I can’t hit a 3 wood or a 5 iron, and playing in the wet NW I got a hybrid to play in the winter instead of a 3 iron off the fairway. Ended up hitting the hybrid so well that I added two more. 818 H1 Atnos Blue Hy 8x shaft
