Batten down the hatches cause the golf storm has arrived!

A stellar field of 120 gathers at the Genesis Invitational this week. Yes, it is no longer an open tournament. Tiger's event like Jack's and Arnie's now has a limited field and the winner gets a three year exemption rather than the usual two.

Course: Riviera Country Club a par 71 of 7322 yards designed by George Thomas and William Bell that opened in 1926.

FedEx Cup Points: 500

Purse: $9,300,000 with a first place check of $1,674,000

Field: https://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/genesis-invitational/field.html

Note: the winner of the Collegiate Showcase Monday will get spot #120

Jospeh Bramlett is the 2020 recipient of the Charlie Sifford Exemption

7 under after 10 holes in the third round. Ran out of steam. Same as his back 9 on Sunday. His win at the invitational in Georgia in April was worth it. :)

It would be even more fun to see Tiger win here as this was his first event on the PGA tour and he's never won this tournament before.

Wow what a field! Tough for Tiger to be the host and win, but maybe it relaxes him and he scores super low rounds?

I like Justin Thomas to win. I expect he will feel he has unfinished business after blowing it last year.

Really looking forward to this one. Always my favourite event of the west coast swing. There is just something about Riviera.

True. But he did captain the Presidents Cup team and play at the same time, and played better than anyone at the event, so you never know.

I love how JB Holmes was the last mentioned on that list. LMAO I had to remind myself who even won last year, but then I remembered Thomas missing a few putts and it getting very windy and chilly that final day.

Yeah, he has pretty much always said "Its a great course, it really suits my eye, and I just never score well here". 😆

Pardon my ignorance. I don't remember the field in Riviera being this strong in many years. We are talking about Memorial Tournament kinda strong.

Historically Tiger has done so well at Riviera. The course probably doesn't suit his eye or game.

I've been wanting to check out the Riv and this is looking like a fantastic field! Few questions for the locals:

I'd like to get there around 8am on moving day Saturday and make a whole day of it. Is the general admission ticket allowed to check out the driving range and putting green areas early morning?

Anyone have feedback on the shuttle service from Santa Monica parking garage before? Did it work pretty smoothly? How much is the parking fee?

Help me out here. An Invitational has a smaller field than a normal tournament and if you win you get an extra year of PGA Tour exemption. What else is different about it? I know Tiger chooses one minority golfer to invite and they have the college shootout, but those aren’t what separates an Invitational, right?

Not all PGA Tour invitationals have 3 year exemptions. Only The Memorial, Bay Hill and now The Genesis offer the 3 year "elevated status" exemption to the winners. Much larger purse this year as well.

My absolute favorite stop of the West Coast swing. Torrey is a complete snooze-fest. Pebble always just feels like the Oscars or something...mildly entertaining but completely forgettable. But The Riv?! Amazing.

I'm not a Tiger fan at all, but have enjoyed his new-found humility. It would be poetic to see him win, but I've got my heart money on others.
