Kevin Streelman's 2nd place finish at Pebble Beach

REJ

Recommended Posts

Felt like he was rocketing up the leaderboard for a while. But there was a little bit of doppler effect going on there with that as well. Still 68 matched the second lowest round of the day behind Spieth's 67. Streelman can be a streaky player and when he's on is very, very good. He just has never done it enough.

Would have been more impressive if he had the Cortex in the bag.

He makes ch3 look like a stone eyed killer...

Nlu used to do a bit on the 'Tiger tax' that current PGA pros should pay. I guess KS should be a pretty hefty contributor.

I get the impression that the way that players like this are rewarded Vs the players who actually generate most of the revenue is one of the factors that might lead to breakaway tours being considered. A lot of people on and off the course make a lot of cash out of the top 20 or so guys.

Not intended as a personal dig at KS, who is obviously a great player and by all accounts a good man, just an observation on that particular golfing demographic.

Some interesting trivia about Kevin...

Kevin's high school golf coach once admitted that when Kevin was in high school that he would never make it as a pro.

He turned pro in 2001 and went through Q-school 7 times before getting his card for the first time back in 2008.

Imagine all the guys out there who would have given up the dream and be working as a financial advisor somewhere if they would have been in Kevin's shoes.

I know you're just havin' fun, but why does college loyalty and hate always have to do with sports? We've got 60 year old members that act like frat boys with their school loyalty. It was 40 years ago, move on.

Oh come on. Just a little Duke poke. All In fun. Only time you’ll hear serious hate from me toward a school is when it’s involving cow college. ( Clemson ). The color Orange doesn’t come into my house. Not even the fruit.

I’ve always liked Streelman. Some guys that size just annoy me, something about the way the cloths fit, I think...like that guy that won in La Quinta this year. But Streelman seems like a thinking man’s man. His squatty swing looks powerful. Got that Scott McCarron type swing. Good man, good man.

If the finish Streelman pulled off during the final round of The Travelers in 2014, 7 consecutive birdies over his last 7 holes, for the win (PGA Tour record to close out a win) was accomplished by a top name player we would never hear the end of it. Instead only a few can even recall it.

That was an excellent finish and the previous year when he won at Copperhead he threw a dart into the Par 3 13th on Sunday which is a pin only the very brave or confident take on on Sunday. Lot's of bailouts short and left on that hole. At the time he called it the best shot he ever hit.

I wrote the U of I tuition checks myself all the years I attended and just wrote one this morning, lol, for my youngest ---- can't relate to the frat thing but I'm an unabashed supporter!

No hate here for other schools, well except Illinois basketball, Minnesota anything, Jim Harbaugh, Jim Bain, Jim Walden (I hope your name isn't Jim, lol) and on and on (and seriously just kidding, not a "hater" type).

a sociology degree from duke most certainly is not a "large task" (i remember a report on academics/athletics some 20 years ago and duke's bball program was mentioned; almost all players were getting sociology degrees, same as streelman) ... getting into duke takes some accomplishment, but getting a general business degree/sociology degree/etc from a university does not a "large task" make ... doesn't mean duke's not a demanding school ... athletes in college don't sign up for engineering degrees for a reason ...
