620 CB swing weight issue ?

So i put in an order for the new 620 CB irons with PX LZ 6.5 shafts tour velvet grips 3 wraps of tape stand length and i want them at D5 sw . I get an email from someone at titleist saying they can only get my swing weight to D1?? I'm playing last years CB with the exact shaft 3 wraps of tape and the tour velvet +4's and my swing weight is D5. Anyone had an issue with this or is it just my luck or are the new CB heads a lot lighter then last years?

That sounds like either laziness on incompetence on the side of the person telling you that. The Project X LZ shafts will actually swing weight slightly heavier than many other shafts due to balance point which would mostly offset the increased weight of the extra tape, meaning that assuming a stock D2 swing weight that they would only need 6-7g added via tip weights or heavier heads. I would ask them why they are unable to get them heavier and if tip weights are for some reason not an option.

So i called them and talked to someone and now all of a sudden they can get them to a D4. So i told him thats fine but if he could i'd really like to get to D5 ( i know its 1 sw but when you're spending that kinda money i want what i want ). so he told me if i went to a mcc grip he could get D5, i said ok fine. so he changed it in the computer and i thought everything was fine. So i send an email to the woman that emailed me about the D1 swim weight making sure she got the changes in the computer. she said she did she was just waiting to make sure that production can do it. this was yesterday at 3pm est and i emailed her today at 3 pm and haven't heard anything back. I'm expecting these things to show up all fucked up. i hope i'm wrong. it just makes no sense to me that this is even an issue

My guess is that they either only use tip weights up to a certain weight, however it makes so no sense that the grip swap would have anything to do with that. The standard MCC grip is a tiny bit heavier than a Tour Velvet, so that doesn't fit. If he wants you to abandon the 3 wraps of tape then he is only achieving D5 by subtracting "grip" weight and that will yield clubs lighter than your gamers. This is important, and i'll break it down like this:

Your gamers (PX LZ 6.5 / Tour Velvet PLUS4 + 3 wraps) = D5If this is the baseline for what you like/want, then we have to account for that fact that that is D5 with a 52g grip + approximately ~3g of tape, so 55g. If you had standard Tour Velvet grips with no tape, your gamers would measure D7. In order achieve the same overall "feel" as your gamers, the new sets would have to look like this:

620 CB (PX LZ 6.5 / Tour Velvet Standard + 3 wraps) = D6.5620 CB (PX LZ 6.5 / MCC Standard + 3 wraps) = D6620 CB (PX LZ 6.5 / MCC Standard + 0 wraps) = D6.75The reason for this is that more grip weight = more tip/head weight necessary to achieve a specific swing weight number. Since your setup involves 55g of total "grip" weight, then that needs to be factored in to what your D5 actually means.

If I may ask because I'm curious... how are you dealing with Titleist directly? Who did you order the irons through? Again I'm being curious because as an owner of my own shop at a private club for 12 years, the CS reps for companies know their stuff when dealing with accounts. When they have to talk to Mr. Smith off the street it is sometimes a different story. When entering orders their computer systems take in all of the order specs and will give the CS agent a range of SW value based on what information is supplied. I can also verify that 99% of the f'ups are a result of the person ordering not being fully specific with what they are needing to order :)

I was dealing with my local rep and he got me in contact with someone at titleist. He got me in contact with them to basically eliminate the middle to make sure i got exactly what i wanted. And thank god he did or it would of been really screwed up. They are still unable to get the swing weight i want for some reason. we had it to D4 and he just calls me back and said it can only get to D3. I have no idea what the issue is but its ridicules if you ask me.

FWIW I always ordered from Titleist with grips "loose in box" and specifically ordered D2 SW. On my scale without grips they almost everytime SW'd to E1 which is what they should be without grips. I'm a firm believer of SW'ing without grip to +9 points above target SW. Heavier grips and/or build up tape will skew the SW scale as you know.

Just treated myself to a swingweight scale. 

I have a set of 620 MB's with Modus 3 125 x shafts in. I thought these come as standard at D2. I bought a CB 4 iron to go with my set, it seemed a bit light, I had added a bit of lead tape to it. 

All of my irons are coming out at D0, my Vokey's have the same shaft and are showing at D3. My old 60 degree SM6 with a DG S300 in is at D6. 

All of my irons are coming out at D0, I have a Golfpride 360 round with 1 extra wrap on.  

I have some lead tape at the ready, but should Titleist really be this far off?
