Porsche Macan Thoughts

My wife wants one. Any thoughts on the Porsche Macan?

Probably my next ride.

I had a '06 911 for about a decade I'd run into the ground and it started giving some issues just when I was at point just after I bought my house that I couldn't put money into fixing. So I sold it and picked up the current Benz. Which I hate. One of my poorer decisions.

But it *HAS* spoiled me on actually having space to haul things - which I do more of now with the house and all. But I'm a Porsche guy through and through - miss that Le Mans ignition. So I started researching the Macan as a thought - Cayenne is bigger than I'd want and I hate the Panamera - and have test driven the S and man ... I love it. Fun as hell to drive. The S is nimble and plenty quick. I think it actually has about the same 0-60 as my old 997. And even the base model is really optioned awesomely for a Porsche.

AND I think it looks boss AF.

I've test driven every level of the Macan (including the Turbo S) as did my wife. We both were severely disappointed with the Macan versus the Cayenne. If you want to save some money, don't need a lot of cargo space, are happy with a small SUV that handles well but is mediocre with acceleration, the Macan is a solid choice. However, we felt the Cayenne was far superior in almost every aspect and ended up buying that one. We haven't regretted the decision at all. I have several friends who own the Macan and love it, so I'm not saying it's a terrible vehicle, I just didn't care for it versus their other SUV offerings. Go test drive all of them. At the very least, I tell this to everyone who is looking into buying ANY model of Porsche...go with at least the model up from the base. The upgrades/power/etc. you get above the base model is worth the extra cost. No matter what, you can't go wrong with a Porsche. Such a great manufacturer.

I was between the Macan and the Jaguar F-Pace and ended up going with the Jag. While the Macan was much nicer inside, the cargo room was a deal breaker. Both are quick and an absolute blast to drive but the whole point of getting an SUV type of vehicle is the space. For me the Jag was the best of both worlds. It also didn’t hurt that their elite care program covers all routine maintenance, oil changes and a lot more for 5 years or 60k miles.

Never driven a Macan but the cayenne hybrid is quick and handles crazy good. What I didn’t like with the Macan is the size. It is so small and the truck is basically nonexistent. If you have small kids and still need car seats or a stroller. It’s game over. You can for anything in the trunk with a stroller.

One thing that jumped out was the cost of an oil change for the cayenne. It was $500 in San Fran at the 10k miles. Crazy but then again if you buying a Porsche. Maintenance and tire costs won’t be an issue.
