True spec fitted me into a graphite design tsg blue?wtf is that

So I had a fitting yesterday and got great numbers with the shaft mentioned above. Is graphite design really making custom shafts for true spec, or is it a renamed current line. It was touted as high launch low spin so I’m thinking ad di or ad Iz. Anyone came across this before?

many help would be greatly appreciated

Hmm....Last year I came across Graphite Design Tour AD VR, on tour. A mid launch design/low spin. Very similar to Tour AD IZ in profile, slightly lower launching. Can it be that one maybe!?

Hey everyone - just seeing this do not sure if it’s relevant or not but figured I would chime in.

I got fitted by TS in March and asked “if you guys are brand agnostic, why are you partnering with brands?” The fitter told me that as they fit golfers, they find some characteristics that don’t exist in shafts the way they think would be optimized best.

They then work with GD and Mitsubishi to build those shafts.

Please understand why this happens. If True Spec fits you into any old Graphite Design shaft that is sold in general retail, then you can just go and buy it anywhere from anyone. However if they can convince you that this one "special" shaft that just happens to only be offered by them is the only one for you, then purchasing from them becomes your only option.

Of course this would severely call into question their brand agnostic claims and interest in only fitting you into the right equipment for you. But that couldn't be the case??

I am not trying to defend TSG as I have no affiliation and have been there once, but I can honestly say they did not try to fit me into “their” shaft.  It was probably the 4th or 5th shaft that I tried and it truly gave me the best results.  I tried a couple other shafts after that one and eventually came back to it and confirmed it was the best result for me.

They also told me what actual Tour AD shaft it was made from so I could have ordered it myself if I wanted, but the TSG version was actually cheaper.  Sure I probably could have found the head a little cheaper on eBay and probably saved a little money, but the difference in the shaft cost would have mostly made up the difference and ended up about net the same.

That was just my experience.

An ad shaft will be worth Money after you leave, their brand = not so much

For you guys asking, I was fit into the TSG Silver as well and I just found out that it is the Tour AD 9003.  I was also surprised that the cost from TSG is $325 and the cheapest I can find the 9003 online is $420, so it at least seems that they are not price gouging on the shaft.

Where did you find out that the TSG silver is the Tour AD 9003? I am looking for shafts with a similar profile to the TSG silver 75x. Ventus Blue 7x?

I have now been fit twice at Turespec.  The first time into the Tour AD TSG Blue, which was a great shaft.  This past week I was fit into the Fujikura TSG Pro XLR8 shaft.  After leaving I googled it and the shaft is no longer on Fujikura’s website and hasn’t been made since 2016.  I somewhat suspect that a 5 year old shaft is the best shaft for me (although it may be) but the price at $250+ seems steep for 5 year old shaft.  And again the TSG I am guessing stands for True Spec Golf and means that they are also getting their own shafts from Fujikura.

The Pro XLR8 is a great shaft, I played it for a while years ago. It has been 'made for' many companies including Cobra for the 2016 F6/F7 driver I believe it was.

I wouldnt doubt TSG is getting them from Fuji still as its an easy shaft for Fuji to make.

Here is the made for Cobra version: https://www.globalgolf.com/golf-accessories/1041973.11-fujikura-pro-xlr8-61-shafts/

The 'real' version is black/yellow and can be found here for example: https://amzn.to/3xJWMG4

I just called graphite design directly. The tsg blue is closest to the BB model, as well as the XC model. He said that the TSG is made specifically for true spec, so there isn’t a 1:1 shaft on their line but those are definitely the closest.

That is very much a cop out statement. What do you expect the manufacturer to say? Assume they are very close except for paint. I doubt Tru Spec ordered enough of them for a "custom build" run other then graphics. Of course I could be wrong.

I hear you. I mean I personally don't have the equipment to test this, so that's all I've got to work off of. What I can say is that I love the shaft, and sure its expensive as hell but it works great in my 3 wood 😀

I always say that you should play the setup that fits YOU.  This means using a reliable launch monitor and either fitting yourself or from someone that's reputable with the numbers.  Now the "made for" TSG shaft may be the best fitting, but the only down side is resale value.  If you don't care about that, go for it.

How funny (in an suspiciously coincidental sort of way). So glad I stumbled across this thread. I was just fitted with True Spec earlier this week. They fit me into the EXACT two shafts mentioned in this thread -- the Fuji Pro XLR8 for my driver and the GD Tour AD TSG Blue for my 3 wood. Jmnx973, I had your EXACT thought when I googled that Fuji Pro shaft, i.e., why in the hell am I paying $275 for a 5 year-old shaft?!? My thoughts are just as yours -- there HAS to be something newer that is comparable. The strange thing is, that shaft did give me the best numbers (and I have been fit enough to know what I am looking at. Wasn't just taking his word for it). Same with the 3 wood shaft.

My issue now is that it calls into question the credibility of the whole process in my mind. Seems pretty clear they are pushing a 5 year-old shaft simply for the profit margins it produces for them. Have to be getting that thing dirt cheap from Fuji. Hell, maybe bought all their old inventory at a HUGE discount, which they are now turning around and selling at new-shaft price points.

My "fix" is to get a second opinion. Going this coming week to my old fitter who uses Trackman outside (versus inside with True Spec). Curious to see the results.

BB and XC are both mid-low launch/low spin models.  Strange that the TSG would tout their made for shaft as high launch/low spin.  Only two shafts from GD that match that profile would be the DI and IZ.
