Off season Trackman help

Recommended Posts

Shaking the rust off after a 4 month lay off to test two combos. With the 9* M6 TZ6 and similar with 10* M3 Pro White, I am at 110 CH, 162BS, 1550 Spin. Carry is around 265 and total at 300 give or take a few yards if I get my speed up to 112.

Attack angle is +5.5-6*.

I am waiting for my data to load into mytrackman account but any thoughts?

This probably doesn't help, but question:

This is an indoor Trackman, right? Were you using the dots on the ball and about how far away from the screen/net was the device? I had an indoor TM lesson recently without the dots, and every single spin measurement was in italics with the driver.

I would say the Trackman 4 was 15-20 feet from the screen. No dots on the ball.

It is a new facility and I was curious to see it. I was going to do a driver fit at CC but wanted a baseline to see where I was at the moment and we how far off I am on CH and Ball speed right now vs in-season before I pay for a fitting.

Not optimal numbers and yourre flirting with the ball basically falling out of the sky if you ever catch it wrong or hit a hook.

Personal opinion here.... But I think it's better to be closer to 3-4 up and like 2100-2300 spin at this speed. You may not get as much total yards but that's of no issue as unless you play links golf, you won't be seeing 35 yards of roll most likely on course. You'll gety more carry and have a more stable, more accurate tee shot with less AoA and more spin.

Gotcha. I hit a high ball with little roll here on the M3 PW combo in the NE and assumed I needed to loft down. This was years of being a little spinny but without any data during last three years of swing changes.

I agree, I walked out last night thinking I need to get back to 2k-2.3k of spin to stabilize the ball as my misses are either a nose diving hook, or a spinny block.

Now it is a matter of slightly shallowing my attack angle in the next month and seeing what that does for me or band-aiding it with a different shaft to bring my spin #s up.

Next session out I’ll slide the weight back on the M3 and see how that works out for me.

Also intriguing is GooseHook’s comment that I may not be getting the most accurate numbers at this facility.

Thanks to the both of you for your input. I’m going to find an outdoor TM facility nearby then for a fitting to remove some of the doubts. It was odd to me that I was consistently seeing 1500 spin regardless of swapping heads and the two shafts within each.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Ball speed and club speed looks within a good range but you need to measure your spin with something else before ruling any of your combos out.

I don’t agree with this. I actually find the TaylorMade marketing campaign with the sldr of 16/1600 target ideal at most swing speeds. But many people don’t have the aoa to get the 16 degrees with such a low spin. I don’t see the launch angle in the original post, but if it’s close to 16 it’s really good IMO

Food for thought:

The TM4 spin numbers being in italics doesn't mean they are "wrong". The spin is still measured during the time before the ball hits the screen but it will show up in italics if the TM4 doesn't have enough space to verify it (enough revolutions before it hits the screen). Chances are the numbers are still extremely accurate as they ARE being measured and it's very unlikely to be much different (hundred rpm change at most) given more space.

GCQ has this reputation as being great indoors but it only reads 6in of ball flight and has been shown to be very suspect when used outside (carry and total numbers are WAY off and it's draw biased like every Foresight product). It measures the same 6in window indoors that it does outdoors so why we should trust it indoors over something like TM4?

That spin level is very low, and you dont mention launch angle?...anyway, Vertical Gear effects is the absolute ruler of spin and overrules all other parameters, so if spin levels is to low, just lower impact position on the face, you dont need a new shaft if those you got is right on weight and feels good.

Here is FLIGHTSCOPEs chart for 165 mph ball speed, (110 mph and a smash factor of 1.5, yours is 1.47) but be aware of that after Trackman and Flightscope both has changes and adjusted their algorithm, Trackman will return a bit longer numbers with the same input values compared to Flightscope, so this chart should be close to the return values you will see on Trackman with 162 mph ball speed.

GREEN fields is peak carry for the actual launch angle, but we dont want spin as low as 1500, we are better off with spin levels a bit higher than that during play.
