Reshaft of Wilson Staff FG17's

Looking for some advice if any on a reshaft job. I had no problem pulling a set of FG17's and re shafting until I bought another wedge to replace mine and can't get the head to budge at all! It's also a Staff head and I've heated and tried on three occasions with no luck. I have a Roberts puller which has never failed until now and I've pulled hundreds of both steel and graphite shafts. I even tried to twist it off to no avail. Anybody got anything I could try?, or a different attack?

The wedge is a special grind, looks just like the one I already pulled, so confused as to the issue? I've read about the problems with the Fluid Feels and other bore thru models and haven't tried to do anything with the set I have, though I would like to reshaft if possible. After reading stories of melting the plugs without the shaft moving, I'm gun shy to say the least. I've also got a set of Goosenecks that I'm gonna start on attempting to pull this evening. I'll try the 2 iron and see how it goes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would recommend trying to drive the FG17 head off with a 1/4" round steel rod and a good size hammer. The shaft where it enters the hosel will need to be secured with a lock tight shaft holder like the type GW sells. Insert the steel rod and pound the head off with solid blows from the hammer.

I've seen that lock tight shaft holder. How does it work?

You might take a look through the clubmakers forum to see if you can find anything there. As I recall, some of the Wilson irons are notoriously difficult to reshaft. Either the shafts were driven into place - thus the sugestion to pound off the head with a rod - or possibly screwed into place. I have reshafted a couple of Wilson JP pitching wedges - most with success but made a real mess of one of them. Tried the rod approach and got the rod stuck. Sent it to Maltby and they got it apart.

Lots of times with older stuff especially Wilson the shafts are swedged in. Other words heated darn near red hot and hydraulically put it. Lots of times you have to cut the shaft off and drill and ream out which can be a real PITA. Sorta the same as the Ping putters with the Stainless Steel balls swedged on the end of the shaft

Thanks for the advice. I'm moving on from this project. I'll either find another wedge or send mine to Continental to pull. Cost is $8 plus shipping. Told them to just return the head so return shipping will be fairly inexpensive. That said I can probably find one in good shape for $10 or less, so we'll see. Playing with FG 51's and they're in good shape. The wedge replacement was to go with my FG 17's and that's on the back burner for now.
