Two sets of irons

How many have a backup set of irons that you use on how you feel or just to hit something different?Do you change from blades or use GI irons to just try something different for conditions on the course or just for the change?

I have miz mph5 that I use summer. Ping BeNi ISI that I use in winter. (The offset seems to help on wet fairways)

What do you mean "a" backup set.

Mine are actual backups that only come out if the primary set is in the dog house or I have a visitor that needs a set.

Golf clubs to me are like wives or girlfriends, I'm only capable of understanding and handling one.

Yea I never have extra irons around, putters an woods sometimes pile up but for me with irons I have to know them well.

I have the same set just broke into 2 sets. Evens bag and odds bag, the only club that changes bags in the driver.

... I have 3 sets I play. P790's are my main set but when I am in Phoenix they don't produce enough spin to hold some of the really hard and fast desert greens that don't produce a ball mark. So I have some P760's I use on those courses. I also have a set of Z Forged I play for fun once a month or so just to remember what it is like to play MB's.

I've got my 765's, a backup set of AP1's for when I'm not swinging well, MP-32's that I'll take out to the range to dial in some ballstriking.. and a set of Nike Vapor Pros that I just put together, that's for my all Nike bag

Typically I'll just play the 765's but I love to have options

My starter set is the G410, followed by the backup set of Apex CF16. After that I have a full set of Ping Eye 2 for sentimental value and finally a set of old Founders Club 200 blades. Too many single wedges, hybrids, fairways and putters to mention.

I can't seem to let go of my old sets so in addition to my new mp20's I have my jpx900tours , miz MMC's and some mp32's...all ready to hit it

Sending the JPX 825 Pros up north to live in my folks' garage so I don't have to travel with my sticks, which brings me down to 2 sets here in FL (my original MX-23s reside at my buddy's house in NJ for the same reason). MP54s are my main set, and just picked up a set of MP32s as a backup. Though I'll probably game the 32s for a while given that they are the new addition to the family...

I swear I only have one set of irons... just don't look in my basement.

Twice I have liked my set so much, bought an identical backup, but that has not been much fun, no variety. I just ordered a jacked loft set of players distance irons to mess with.

Primary set p770/90 forgiving players. Vacation set is Miura CB 1008. Less forgiving but dead sexy and i am on vacation...driver hybrid and putter float but If I spend enough time on BST and I will end up with a full Japanese bag.

... Backup set we USE. Many of us have a Second Swing of clubs in our basements that we can't seem to let go. Along with the 3 sets I play I own other irons including Cobra Forged Tour, 588TT's and Lynx Tour MC Forged irons that I don't see myself ever letting go.

Going back and forth between TaylorMade P790 and Ping G700. Hit the G700’s at the range today and thought it would be a one and done but they were very nice.

You calling my line up Basements sets? Basement sets? Here are my Basements sets: Lynx BC Tour, Mac VIP, Snake Eye 675B, '87 Wilson Staff, '86 Spalding Tour Edition, Sonar Tec 301, Maxfli Australian Blade, Ping Eye2 BeCu (Don Lunty left me those), Mizuno TP2000, Maltby ProLogic Tour...+ a few sets of heads.

Variety is the spice of life. This may not apply if you are the type that focuses on each half point on your GHIN though.

Just let go of my very recent acquisitions by TM - the M5 with Nippon Modus 105 and their P790 with KBS CTL. I decided to "venture" out into the more user friendly heads for 1 year and go back into a shaft wt. I had used well from 2009-2013. Like them, liked the wt. but have an injury.

Just down to two steel-shafted old (for me) MB sets I do play and really like: Callaway Razr MB and Honma TW727M.

Now, due to front elbow issues derived at range sessions, I need to go get another set of Graphite shafted irons for mostly range time.

.....I had two sets of Mizunos past in Recoils and am now leaning into either these in a Recoil F4 110:TM P760, Ping i210, or Cally MB - anybody have preferences of choice on those three?

Edit: Went with the P760. I liked the TM past but both were a touch thicker toplines than my eye likes. Can't wait as I have a lesson day in March here with Clement!

Buying and playing different clubs has increased my love of golf five fold. In 2018, I used my club membership for maybe 6-7 rounds, last year I got into club hoeing, and must have played 65 rounds. I have too many different sets. This winter, I took my other clubs and put them in my ski bag. Start of season through June, I just want to play my p760’s. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still tinker and shuffle between 6 putters, 4 drivers, 5 woods/hybrids and a couple options in the 4 iron slot, but I want to see how consistent I’ll be with 5-lob wedge staying the same for the first three months.

Fwif, I’m going with p760’s these first couple months over a host of classy irons, including Rose Protos, jpx 900T’s, J15’s, V6’s, and an MMC/HMB combo.

Backup set #1 - Mizuno MP-54, 3-pw

Backup set #2 - Mizuno MP-32, 3-pw

Backup set #3 - Nike VR Pro Blades, 2-pw

Backup set #4 - Cobra Fly-z Pro, 3-pw

I only have two sets of irons and I cannot decide which to make my main set. My heart really wants my Z765's to be in the bag, but me head tells me that I hit the JL MM Prototypes just that little bit better.

... Oh please, I watched you shoot around par (or under) wearing a camouflage snow suit that made you look like the Michelin Man when it got a little chilly while using Snake Eye 675B and they are relegated to your basement? I think you sniffed too much Texas Golfsmith epoxy.

I have multiple sets of the same iron with different shafts.

1 higher launching for my normal days.

1 lower launching for windy days.

1 softer flex for winter/sore/feeling old and tight days.

Everything else is identical.

It was Freezing! low 50's for sure, that's cold in these parts...I was gaming the mp32's till the mp20 out, what an iron...playing them for the pleasure, can't beat any body anyway so who cares oh, my new rainsuit is Athletic fit, much better than the Blimp.

Yeah, wife saw the set of Muirfields I bought a couple weeks ago in the laundry room, nice that she didn't close the door to see the 770/750s behind it... But they all just go well with the other 5 sets that I have, so it makes sense...

Primary set: snake eyes 685x forged rifle 6.0

2nd: orlimar ken venturi pg-64 blades s400

3rd: snake eyes 600b p-6 600c 5-3 rifle 6.0

4th: callaway xr pro kbs tour stiff

5th: tommy armour 986 tour s400

I've never had a issue going from one set from the next. I keep a note pad in my bag with stock distances with each set. The Callaway and tommy armour's hardly ever get played though .

The snake eye 600c is the most solid iron I've owned, including all my mizunos...if there was a 2020 model with legal grooves and modern lofts, I'd play'em for sure...still have my old heads.
