Launch Monitor Data Question.

I was hitting at golf galaxy on one of their foresight simulators and I noticed no matter what I did the "efficiency" (smash factor) was 1.45. Is there a setting that they can set to make it that way? So you get the max flight with your ball speed or something? I asked the guy he had no idea was I was talking about, but the data was completely wrong I believe. Well I know, because i talked him into letting me hit on the Trackman to show him and my club head speed was averaged at 91 (7 iron) which I know is right. The numbers were all drastically different.

Definitely set at 1.45.

But, with 91 club head speed with 7 iron you should be getting near 120 ball speed.

Sorry bro, you're not swing a 7-iron at 91 if you are averaging 104 ballspeed.

You're probably closer to 78-80mph with it.

You hit on a GC2(without an HMT), which doesn't measure club-data. They put 1.45 there to give you an estimate of your clubhead speed from hitting a driver. It has 0 impact on carry distance calculations.

Ball speed is king.

Most of those were pitching wedges and 9 Irons. Here is trackman data with a 6 iron average right around 92 7 Iron a couple mph slower. They ended up admitting that their system has been misreading.. But thanks.......Bro

There system isn't misreading, CHS just isn't measured on GC2. Even if it was a GC quad, CHS would be a bit different than your trackman data due to how it's measured, thus my statement ball speed is king.

Ok so again, you're complaining that the data is "wrong"... but it's not... "they ended up admitting they're system has been missreading" lol. GC2s are very very solid machines. These guys have no idea what they are talking about most likely. Just because they are employees at golf galaxy doesn't mean they know anything about launch monitors

Define misreading... Smash itself isnt a read, just a ratio of reads. If it were reading club head or ball speed high or low, you would still see varying smash factors. I wouldnt call it misreading. It was set at a smash of 1.45 and was measuring ball speed and then giving you a calculated club head speed based off the predetermined smash. If the only thing it was measuring was ball speed and those reading were accurate, i wouldnt call it a misread by the machine. just the setup parameters are quite a bit off for the clubs you were using.

The original question was how the swing speed/ball speed always equaled 1.45 and if there was a setting to make it that way. And I got my answer from the first response. I didn't know that the smash was predetermined by the system, thus creating the swing speed. The guy at the store was an idiot and told me it was reading the swing speed and giving me those numbers. My main point was to find out I am not crazy and that the 1.45 is just a predetermined number they put in there. And now I know.

The thing that doesn't make sense is why it would ever make sense to have that predetermined number just to get a faux swing speed. Unless you make a perfect swing and contact every single time there is no point.

Hence, smash factor is meaningless and ball speed is king. Always

It’s to give you an estimate of your swing speed with Driver. It’s pretty accurate provided center contact.

No, not always meaningless. It can be very useful if you're actually using an LM that measures swing speed.
