M2 Driver 2016 vs 2017

Just wanted some quick feedback on these. It seems the 2016 has a better following than the 2017 version so wanted to ask people’s thoughts on why that is or overall thoughts on the two. Looking for a second/backup driver to travel with and can get one of these for good price. Just wanted some thoughts if the 2017 is worth the little more in price.

Not much difference at all in performance of the two. Basically eye appeal, feel, and sound. The 2016 has a more muted sound and felt more solid at impact. The 2017 has a higher pitch sound and feels like the ball springs off the face. The 2017 is also a tad larger profile looking down on it at address. I’ve had both and still game the 2016. Just prefer the sound and feel of it better.

I've had both and still game the 2017 model. As Whit said 2016 is smaller, more dead/muted sounding but you would not see much of a performance difference imho. For my I put a ton of stock into looks and sound. I didn't love the straight line white to carbon separation on the 2016 vs the more curved line on the crown of the 2017. I also am in the minority I think that likes a loud driver. I do wish the head size on the 2017 was a bit smaller, it's still 460cc but squashed down and makes it look bigger.

The 2017 was WAY BETTER for me as well, especially in the forgiveness department. Had the exact same shaft ( GD DI-6 ) in both heads as well, distance was pretty close between the 2. Still have the 2017 M2 with GD DI-6 shaft as my back-up.

Everyone above hit the nail on the head. 16 was more muted sounding, looks a little smaller at address. I found the 16 to be slightly more fade biased and slightly lower spinning. The 17 looks a little bigger, seemed a little more forgiving across the face. Personally, I’ve had the 16 since release and have just now ordered the Sim max. That’s a pretty strong testament to how good the original was, if it stayed in my bag that long.

I’ve had both as well and my 16 is still in the bag. I like the more compact look at address. Also I love the solid feel and the more muted sound. I have not hit the SIM but have tried or hit all the M Series drivers and the 16 is just as long. Always a Titleist driver guy and hated TM drivers but the 16 M2 made me change.

'17. I don't think it looks as big as the '16 honestly, maybe even a little smaller. '16 does feel a little "softer" and sounds more muted but I found the '17 to be more forgiving and launched higher. TXG guys talked about the '16 launching flat and spinning pretty low. Another option might be the '17 M1. Also got some good praise.
