Interesting Data on Club Head Speed

This has been compiled by the FSGA doing combines for different age groups (mostly older) of boy's and girl's. If you have ever wondered about club head speed and where Juniors are, this lists the class and the club head speed.

Would have been good with bigger sample size and more of the top players

Interesting that you can click on their names and it takes you right to their combine info.

My son did that along with a few other local

kids. Was pretty cool. It was a good experience for the kids

Good data on lots of age groups to see laid out in one place.

The kids from our area that participated , were mostly accomplished tournament players One now playing in College ,one committed.

Very interesting data. They should conduct a follow up test for the same kids ; I expect most kids will do better second time around from familiarity of the test.

Thanks for posting this. Some initial take-aways from looking at the data of mostly the top 10 boys:

Median swing speed is at around 113mph. This is equal to PGA tour average. This new generation is definitely hitting longer.Most have best scores in short to mid irons, 7i to pw. I suspect this is most kids practice most and are most comfortable with. Maybe an opportunity for most kids to work more on 100 yards and in?Correlation between age and swing speed! It seem to be rare for kids <14 to break 100mph swing speed.

You have to sign up and pay $10.00 at a FJT tournament site for the first combine. The next costs $45.00, I don't see too many people signing up to do it a second time.

yea not a single one of my students have done it. More likely the younger kids would do it.

Your right. I missed Tori. Makes sense for her since she’s swinging 100ish mph at/since 14 years old and is now more like 103-105 when she goes after it. I’m sure she knew she’d be the fastest girl measured

actually missed Tommy too. But makes sense he would do it. Makes more sense for younger kids like Tommy who have some speed

Be nice to see either smash factor and/or ball speed. Fast doesn't always mean effective.

I agree that some people may feel uncomfortable to put up swing speed numbers etc out there for the world to see. However it’s good to know the numbers and know how a player compared to the peer group, say if TrackMan can keep the numbers private and viewable to the kid only.

It’s more that all my kids have access to a launch monitor wiener they want. They know their numbers and don’t need to pay the FSGA to get the numbers. They know how they compare to their peer groups. Kids who are long know they are long and kids who hit it short know they hit it short.

i don’t think there really is much news other then just what speeds are for kids playing.

knowing their names really doesn’t matter. We have played with some of the girls on here and it pretty much what I expected.

I just think a lot these kids just didn’t have access like some do to a trackman.

The FSGA posts their numbers for colleges and a short interview on the profile page of the player.

And I think it matters very little in recruiting. I won’t say worthless but it’s close. I know how the FSGA is trying to sell it but I just don’t see it. And obviously many others feel the same way with how little data they’ve collected with all the opportunities for them to gather it. Now I do think it’d be a great idea to collect it for every player for free throughout the year just so they have the data.

I think you are correct if you have access there really is no need for this at all. Big reason why I haven’t had my kids do it.

having said that I can see the need for those without access to launch numbers and clearly there are kids out there who are not taking lessons regularly this is a really option.

with the price of trackman and to cover actual costs I think the price is more then fair enough and usually it convenient for anyone to take if there doing a tournament.

I think having the data is a great teaching tool but like you said it not too hard to figure out what you need without one. A lot great players never used a trackman growing up.

The kids local to us sort of did it together and it was fun for them. 2 of the kids were already commits.
