Ping and Titleist a force to deal with in 2020

The commercials are captivating. Callaway claims they are the number irons on tour and Taylormade claims the Sim driver is the number one driver played on tour. This may be true, but Ping and Titleist staffers have dominated the tour to date and it seems the dominance will continue. If they sweep the majors it would be fascinating. The question is, does Ping and Titleist have the best engineers in golf?

Ping has been dominating the tour? I feel like it's pretty rare a ping staffer wins a major tournament. Also, Wilson Staff and Srixon players took down majors last year. The other two were won by a Taylormade and an independent golfer. Ping and Titleist may have had a few good months, but dominance?

TM is always going to be the #1 driver on Tour, they have good offerings and pay tee up money, as with any other thing on Tour. Titleist pays for ball coverage ands to make sure that their name is on the pga website letting you know who plays their ball... I'm sure SC has some thing in play other than just a custom built putter for people, as there are many very good putters out there (boutique or OEM), but SC seems to be the consensus pick. Irons are basically a pick'm for me as all have solid blade and cb offerings, all with same shafts available, no one brand is a clear fav in this regards with so many 'free agents' trying different things out.

Winning Majors is 100% irrelevant as that is just one week and anyone can get lucky regardless of what they have in the bag (que up Campbell, Hamilton, Beem, Yang). Would be more interesting if they took another page out of the Nascar book and did a manufacturers championship. But that would likely just lead to even more ballooning costs for consumers as OEM's would be back at throwing contracts out to sign as many as possible.

Why isn't PXG included in this? Don't they make the greatest equipment ever and should have more wins than they currently do...

For like the thousandth time, TM NO LONGER PAYS TEE UP MONEY. Drivers are just better, swallow that. Titleist/Ping Fanboys cmon now LOL

I always hear that TM is the No. 1 Driver on tour but Callaway has this right on their press releases and commercials-is it because callaway is bigger on LPGA tours so it technically has more drivers in play as a percentage?

If they were #1 driver on the biggest Tour in the world, I'm sure that they would say that, as it means far more than world wide Tours that have less talent than the KF Tour.

I mean saying you're the #1 driver on tour doesnt really say a whole lot. Its extremely vague and can be defined a ton of different ways.

All the major OEMs could make that claim in a press release/in advertisements and have their own definition which makes it technically true for them.

This. They say "Tour" but could mean anything. It's like when you read an article with a click-bait title.....

I think PING could advance in the popularity numbers if they would get rid of those ugly Turbulators.

How many people feel that the people who wins most pga tour events win because of what equipment they choose to play?

Aren't we at a point now where the difference between this brand or that brand in the hands of the pros is somewhat negligible? I guarantee if push came to shove they could all hit the same shots using whatever sticks are laying about.

Just my opinion here but pry worth noting that when a player wins a tournament playing with Company A’s equipment, there are 150+ guys that didn’t win and some of them are playing that same equipment......

it’s all a numbers game. I’ve read that Titleist has the highest number of of PGA and European Tour players on staff/payroll, so in theory they should show up more often. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing as I’ve played a lot of Titleist stuff over the years and really enjoyed it.

It is unlikely to happen but if every player became a free agent and played whatever they liked best - only then would we get a true sense of what companies are most highly played.

I think this entire debate is exactly what all OEM’s want. It proves that all the advertising money they have spent is actually working because in reality every single manufacture produces the exact same club as their competitors AND nearly the exact same club they released 10 months before. They just have slightly different badging.

In the end most peoples purchasing habits have nothing to do with the products ability to improve their game. We purchase for emotional reasons almost exclusively.

equipment matters. But not that much. it probably has more to do with the fact that PING, Titleist and PXG don't pay big money for big name guys (typicallY) and early in the season there's a less consistent amount of big players playing their best. Early part of the PGA season is typically when these rookies and lower ranked players win. The top tier players will turn on their game during major season and you'll suddenly see more Callaway and Tailor-made players winning
