Austin Golf Trip

Taking a trip in a little over a month to Austin to play golf and wanted to see what anyone thought of the potential courses planned.

Sunday - Friday are our days available to play.

My biggest concerns would be traffic between locations or passing up a better course for a lower quality one.

Sunday AM - Relaxing in town

Sunday PM - The Bandit

Monday AM - Falconhead

Monday PM - Star Ranch

Tuesday AM - Roy Kizer

Tuesday PM - Wolfdancer

Wendesday AM - Omni Barton Fazio Canyons

Wednesday PM - Omni Barton Coore Crenshaw

Thursday AM - Omni Barton Fazio Foothills

Thursday PM - Relaxing and BBQ

Friday AM - Vaaler

I'm in a similar boat.

Traffic wise you should be fine between courses, since it's mid-day, and weekdays. For what it's worth I'd replace Kissing Tree in San Marcos, with Kizer or The Bandit. It's similar price point as Bandit.

I would switch Omni Canyons and Foothills. Foothills and Cliffside (Coore Crenshaw) are together (same pro shop) so you should play them on the same day to avoid driving. Canyons is about three miles away and has it's own pro shop.

BTW, Foothills and Cliffside are hosting the PGA Professional Championship and will be closed April 23 - 30.

Foothills is closed May 6 - 9 for another tournament.

For BBQ, my favorites are Schmidt's in Bee Cave and Opie's in Spicewood.

The drive from Falconhead to Star Ranch is about an hour. Hills of Lakeway Hills course and Flintrock Falls course are both about 10 minutes from Falconhead.

I haven't played Star Ranch, but if you can get on the Hills of Lakeway courses I would play them instead.

Kizer's greens could be dead on any given week, so check beforehand. Wolfdancer is a really nice course and often thought of as the best public in Austin. On the Wolf/Kizer day or Falconhead/Star Ranch day. you could drive out to Burnet and play Delaware Springs and the Legends at LBJ. I've played about 30 courses in the Austin area and they are 2 of the best publics in the area. It's a bit of a drive out of the city, but I think they are really good courses.

We should already be booked for the Omni Courses and I may have the Fazio courses switched up, but I was surprised to find the first time I called that they had so many blackouts when we originally wanted to book. I'll look into Hills of Lakeway. I believe the person hosting us has a membership somewhere or knows someone who knows someone. Hopefully! Thanks for the food rec's too! seconding the take on Kizer’s greens. they’re in real rough shape at the moment, and i’ve been hearing rumblings about the course shutting down from April - Sept to redo them. the other course on the property, Jimmy Clay, is in impeccable shape atm, but it’s def not as challenging/interesting as Kizer

Don’t play kizer. I haven’t played there with it in good shape in like 2 years

Would Plum Creek be a good replacement for Roy Kizer? Looks close enough to Wolfdancer to play both in one day easily.

I'd play Plum Creek over Kizer all day. You also have Grey Rock nearby, that is typically in decent shape.

I played Canyons early last week and it's not in the best shape. course will be closed may-sept, redoing tee boxes and bunkers, but already not the canyons you'd expect. and with all the cups out of the hole, meh. I realize you posted this post meltdown, but yeah, just my two cents. assuming you're staying out there, id still play it.
