Europe ban and the Masters

Will the Masters be postponed? I know a lot of European players live in the states, but wow, this is unprecedented.....

Well they have till Friday to get here...

Could be an awfully small field at the Masters this year, probably no patrons either. Wonder what Augusta will be like without the roars?

the ban does not apply to travel from the UK...I am sure there will be a few that won't make the trip but there will also be a few that will stay here longer at places like Florida

Most top ranked European players are in the field this week. Most should already be here. Not sure what to expect with no galleries at The Masters. Never would have expected the conference tournaments and NCAA tournament to go without spectators.

I work for the airlines, so I'm pretty sure I won't avoid contracting it (not that I'm worried about it, I'm relatively young and healthy). I was fortunate to get Masters tickets in the lotto last year and assumed I'd probably never go back (and fork over $3000+ for tickets), now I'm wondering if I shouldn't non-rev to ATL and pay at the gate at a severely reduced fee. That's the optimist in me....

Of course I absolutely want the Masters to be played and I'd feel terrible if it got postponed and some European players couldn't get over to play in it, but I don't think it will played fans or not. This is a serious public health issue. Just not worth the risk.

TBH I dont think the Masters is worried about the event being played without spectators...Imagine how large the rating will be if the only way you get to watch it is via TV/cable, Augusta NGC can jack up their broadcast price and CBS will have no choice but to pay it. I actually think it would be cool to watch a tournament without some idiot yelling in the back ground, or the crowd stopping a ball from going in the woods, the course may set up differently without trampled down rough

You can watch the masters with a crowd and not hear the idiots. They don’t do that there

I doubt the ban effects private planes, like net jets.

I said in a post here a couple years ago , that if the world were coming to an end , I’d strap my bag on my shoulders and walk to Augusta and play the old girl once , sit on amen corner and wait for the end. I hope I wasn’t being prophetic. I don’t recall the thread or context. But I vividly recall thinking it Ugh .

Of course, it's one set of rules for the rich and another for the working man, always has been and always will be.

As things stand, with no guarantee that all the invited players will be able to travel, covid-19 cases still rising in most countries, and many other sports cancelling events, I think it is extremely unlikely that the Masters will go ahead as scheduled. The situation will be worse in a month from now, not better. Chances are that the Players will be the last event for a while...

No, I’m pretty sure private jets are banned too.

Edit: However, it wouldn’t surprise me if there is some special exemption some people can use and get in.

Saw a report yesterday that the number of cases in Italy dropped from Monday and 1000 people have recovered from the virus there.

The ncaa is a funny one. Colleges are sending kids home but they are going to let the kids travel to the various venues and play games with non fans.

follow the money...in times of panic there are ALWAYS profiteers and opportunists taking advantage of the situation and people. I can see the pros not High 5'ing the crowd as they go by, and maybe not giving away used gloves, and signing autographs at the ropes may be a thing of the past for awhile

They looked to be signing and engaging with fans at the players on the range and I saw Phil stop and take a pic in between holes. Might be individual dependent but for now seems like business as usual

That was yesterday...the NBA set a lousy precedent last night and same with NCAA BB, just waiting to see who follows suit...MLB, the PGA Tour, NHL...I am sure the powers that be were probably burning up the phone lines last night trying to figure out how to get ahead of this panic and position themselves for the least amount of long term damage

yeah the nbas decision is taking panic to another level. From what I read the owners were all over the place in what to do. Some wanted things to stay as is until a mandate from the government came, others wanted to do without fans and others to do games in locations with no reported cases. Sounds like the commish was leading the pack on cancellation.

I heard mlb is considering starting the season at spring training facilities.

I get being cautious but there’s way to much unnecessary panic.

I wish people would actually research things before making statements like this. The economic implications from the unfounded mass hysteria FAR outweigh any possibility of a "serious public health issue".

Hard to keep games going when a third of the teams are quarantined.

Augusta is really good at faking things. They will just place speakers all over the course and pump in the sound. There will be no TV shots showing empty grandstands and they will keep talking about patrons and the great pimento cheese sandwiches that everyone is enjoying.

The NBA's decision was down right stupid, but professional basketball is a terrible sport anyway..... Back to golf. I hope the Masters goes on and other events continue as well. A quick google search looks like private flights are still an option. I can see ticket numbers reductions as a good solution. Less people, more spread out.

I think the truth lies in the middle. As usual.

italy literally tried to ignore it completely , and elderly paid the price. And they like China have a much closer concentrated existence compared to us. Only in the metro areas is this panic worthy. Where I live , I could literally go a week and not see another human outside my family unless I go into town to the store. , or a car passing by the road 200 yards away.

point being. Sure. Stop the gatherings in metro areas. Sporting events , etc. As a precaution.

but this crazy news cycle that’s pushing panic is driving me nuts. People as A group are dumb animals. More unfounded info does not help. It’s like the story of Henny Penny. They say the sky is falling. Or.... is the fox sharpening his fork and knife ?
