Sim Max owners

Just put in my order for a Max yesterday; originally had been striping the regular sim head, but during my second fitting session my swing was very off that day, and hit everything relatively poorly. The Max head was consistent, but gave me shorter distances than I was getting with the regular sim head originally. But again, everything was shorter that day

for those of you who ordered the Max instead of the regular sim head for a bit more forgiveness, have you noticed any significant distance trade off on a good centered strike? I know that large thread discussing the hard cut/fade bias with the regular head also had influenced my decision, as I couldn’t do any real world testing before I ordered- just indoors. Just hope I didn’t sacrifice a lot of distance going max head.

Last week I was at the simulator and tested my Max against the regular SiM they had in the demo bin and I did notice the regular SiM was a little longer than the max. Probably about 5 yards or so. Not enough to make me want to trade the extra forgiveness I’m getting out of the max.

Did u notice an appreciable amount of forgiveness from your max in real world testing? Any of the hard fade bias ppl talk about with the regular head?

I haven’t had it outside yet, won’t be getting out until Tuesday with it (unless corona shuts down the course). I can say that inside my misses were less pronounced with the max. My miss is left and when I missed with the regular sim it went a lot further left than the Max.

With that all being said, I feel like with a little time hitting the sim I could probably get it dialed in. I might end up buying a 10.5 sim and working on it.

SIM was about 5yds farther than the Max for me but I went with Max b/c I was seeking for more forgiveness this year. Only 1 round so far living in Chicago so still undetermined. Ive seen more hard fades out of the Max than I ever saw with my m5 last year

One of my last simulator sessions I had an awesome swing day. Max was about 4 yards farther with 2mph more ball speed than m5

I can’t speak for the other poster but it takes a pretty bad swing on my part for me to get a hard fade/slice out of it. When I do I already know where’s it’s going because I felt the face open at impact. I find it very forgiving and have no problem hitting it straight. My miss is usually getting quick in transition and coming over the top for the slight low pull. I fight low spin at 105 mph so I went with the max as the regular SIM was spinning at 1800. Max was spinning at 2200 with the same shaft.

I went back and forth test SIM and SIM Max. I finally settled on the SIM. I just felt the launch and spin for me was better. Not miles, but just slightly. it may have even just been that day.

It will really depend on you. The SIM is lower spinning than max. If you cannot spin sim enough then max could be longer. Ballspeeds are very similar between the two. Max just launches and spins a bit higher. If you need that then you'll hit it farther. If you struggle with high spin then sim is your better bet.

Interestingly, on both days, my ballspeeds were identical between the two drivers, and spin was also identical on average (2400 give or take 50 rpm). Yet my launch with any driver I hit that day was drastically lower the second day, but that’s due to me falling into bad habits with my driver setup. The sim was 10 yards longer the first day, but everything was longer as I was swinging better. Didn’t even really hit the max that day. Tough call.

If you have a consistent miss (or, conversely hit it consistently one way) then the regular sim may be better. Moveable weight can help reduce sidespin which would help you hit it farther.

But if you're not a consistent ball striker then max is likely your better option.

my consistent miss lately is a fade/slice. Used to be a snap hook. I remember you, and many others, struggling to not close the face with the regular sim and fighting a huge right miss. That was a concern- if it’s already significantly fade biased to the point of ppl having to actively close the face to fight it, I figured it would feed into my miss. When I swung well with the w regular sim, I didn’t find it missing more than other offerings but I know closing the face is something ppl are struggling with with the regular and didn’t wanna see that in real world testing.

And you won't know for sure until you buy it and take it on the course.

True; just an expensive mistake if it doesn’t work out lol. Hopefully it does.

Get one off the BST, then you won’t pay as much of a premium and can resell for little to no loss if it doesn’t work for you.

Just get it from a place that has playability guarantee. You have 90 days to like it or return it for something g else.

Even better idea. I might do that note that you mention it and give the SiM a true work through.

Wow everyone has me a bit nervous as Im waiting for some better weather and all I'm hearing is how this is a fade biased driver. Has anyone set it on the higher setting with a closed face to see what that does. A higher setting increases the loft as well which is okay with me. I was bit confused as I thought setting it to a lower setting would set the loft lower but instead it lowers the loft and opens the face. I really want this driver to work out as I've owned so many driver TaylorMade drivers in the past and have been pleased with the performance I got out of them. What setting has anyone used to keep their drives from fading or becoming a slice. I know a good swing is more important but any help out there I would appreciate it.

I have my max 10.5 set on the -2 setting. I think -2 is 4 degrees open?

So by having the face open helps hit a draw, what is your swing speed 110 mph.

12 degrees on the lowest loft setting, play like 10 degree with 4 degree open. Hit it straight, high launch or with a baby draw with the face close down a little bit.

I have a 9* loft set it to a higher setting 1 click which closes the face but will give me more loft to maybe a 9.5* or more which hopefully gives me a baby draw. Waiting for some nicer weather.

Having the face open helps me calm down my bad miss which is a hook.

You must hit it a mile and have a very high swing speed. Must be nice to be young

When I was fit I got the same spin out of both but had 3mph more ball speed with the max

Closing the face would only help if you're fading the ball due to an open clubface at impact. If the head has a fade biased CoG then you can't really combat that with face angle.

Went with the Max 10.5. Doubt I could spin the regular SIM enough to keep my cut from turning into a slice. Plus I hit the Max plenty long and most are not centered strikes lol.

I’m hoping I didn’t make a mistake with ordering the SIM Max. I had the the regular SIM and didn’t seem to hit it any father than my M3 but had a hard time hitting it straight. I am hoping that is maybe due to it not spinning enough. I can’t wait to get it on the course to find out!

I keep seeing the max is fade bias complaints. My question is do you guys also think the M6 is fade bias? I owned both and I dont see much difference in them with regards to being bias. I actually have 2 Max heads and decided to keep the 10.5 and play it open and have the 9.0 for sale.

Jason Day plays the Max head, Rory said he got almost identical numbers with standard and max and is however playing the standard. I prefer the forgiveness of the Max and even tho I generate too much spin but give me forgiveness any day of the week. Less penalty shots per round !

The biggest problem with the max head is that no one other than TM knows where the CoG is. If you look at the back weight, it's in a fade biased position. It sits where the m5 back track fade setting was. But internal weighting could mean the CoG is neutral. We won't know until the summer when the 2020 CoG and MOI report comes out.

A huge problem with using tour players as a litmus is that they have a driver that appears to be stock but none of them are. Their drivers are almost always hot melted to alter CoG.

I really hope OEMs start to release CoG info upon release of clubs so we can know what we're getting. That's a key reason I'm a huge believer in adjustable weight tech.
