Your GPS target yardage aquisition TIME?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to decide on a GPS unit & need your help. For those who own a GPS unit....

Scenario:

You're in a golf cart driving up to the tee-shot you just hit on a par 5...

From the moment the cart stops next to your ball...

How long in seconds before your GPS unit "settles" on a yardage-to-green number???

GPS brand/model:

Location(state/country):

Aquisition Time(seconds):

If you have a "best/worst" experience, please post that range, thanks.

I use Golf Guru in western central Florida. I typically carry the unit in my pocket. By the time I get out of the cart and remove my Guru from my pocket, it is ready. In other words, it is almost immediately settled.

I would find waiting for a distance somewhat frustrating.

I've used my Guru about 5-6 rounds. I love its function and the accurate :swoon2: :clapping: data it provides.

Hope this helps.

Both my old SG2 and the Golf Guru take less time to "settle" than it takes me to get out of the cart and glance at it hanging off my bag. The only time the distance will fluctuate is when I am right between two yardages, say 155 and 156 since it only resolves to a whole yard.

I don't think you're going to find a significant difference in how long it takes to grab a yardage number. Once any of these gps units are on they should continually display yds. It my take one unit a minute or two more to grab enough satellites on startup but as long as you turn the unit on a few minutes before heading to the tee that should not be very significant either. I would suggest costs and features as more useful in chosing which one you wanted.

I'm using a golf guru and find it easy to use and provides all the features I want.

I use Golf Logix and I love it . I turn it on when I'm walk out of the clubhouse. By the time I get to the first tee, it has auto reconized the course I'm playing of the 20 courses I have programed in. This is all the courses within driving distance of my house.

As far as how fast it gets yardage, here is an example. I hit my drive then hit the last shot button, I get in my cart and beging to drive toward my ball. Its starts at 0 yards then the closer i get to the ball it rolls up the yards like a speedometer on a car. When I step out of the cart and reach for it on my side,it tells me I've hit the drive 247yards. The give me yardages to any hazards or bunkers as well as the yardages to the various parts of the green.

Two other things I really like about my Golf Logix is that I have accidently dropped it twice. It like the old Timex watches. Ittook a lickin and kept on tickin. Also I like the fact that it is battery opperated. If if gets low just throw in 2 more Duracell AA batteries. Don't use the cheap batteries they will not last 27 holes that I normally play on the twilight rate. I usually replace them after every round and then put them in a basket to use in radios, toys and etc at home.

BTW: I compared to a friend of mine's Sky Caddie as far as yardage goes and there was never more than 3 yards difference. I dont know about you but it is blind luck if I hit it within 9 feet or less of an intended target for 250 yards out

Anywhere in the world, under cloudy skies, forests and or canyons, a GPS may take bit longer due to having fewer signals. Provided it is not fluctuating more than one or two yards, most of us that carry a 10+ HC it really won't matter.
