Finally! I found my anti-left hybrid!

Like many, I have spent about 5 years now trying to find a hybrid that didn't have a hard left miss. I've demoed them all (most recently on trackman @ club champion), and owned a bunch. This year I found a few contenders; the g410 in 3* flat, the TS3 in C1 (flat and open), and the Callaway Apex. Of these, I liked the apex best overall, but it still went left whenever I got even the tiniest bit in to out on my path (which is honestly how I hit my irons, but they give me a tight draw vs. a legit hook).

I was searching and searching, and FINALLY, I found that you can order the Callaway Apex 2* flatter than off the rack (which is how I play my irons...), but only thru Callaway directly, and only at full price.

I bit the bullet... ordered the Callaway Apex with Catalyst HYB80 6.5, 2* flat, paid $279.99 (with a MCC+4 align midsize) and prayed it wouldnt be on the BST after 18 holes and/or a range session.

Today, I ventured into the public and faced corona infection to play 18 and hit it at the range. AND THIS THING ROCKS. ROCKS.

Call it a honeymoon, call it what you will, but I was hitting 225-235 missiles that were absolutely dead a** straight. It was so much easier off the fairway than my T-MB 3i (which I admittedly love off the tee) . I could even flight the apex down into the wind and make it take a soft fade on command. Stock flight is a high, penetrating bullet that comes down with enough spin to hold greens (another thing the T-MB 3i struggled with)

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS THING. Ordering it 2* flat was the best decision I have ever made. It is just astounding...

Now only if I can find a fairway that matches this in performance...

Yeah, I hit the 2 and 3 extensively on track man and they were certainly anti left compared to most hybrids I’d ever hit... but the left still liked to show up 1/15 swings...

I play irons 2* flat, and I’m so happy I ordered the apex that way... hit 30 balls today on course and range and never saw anything but the occasional 10 yard draw (which is my kids with irons).

99% went straight as you can hit a golf ball

My old Ping Ansers are as anti-left as they come and I'll still put them up against any new stuff.

Dang it. I loved my Apex but my miss was a big left so I got rid of it. Wish I knew you could get it flat when I ordered it last year. I loved the look of it at address and it hit rockets. Oh well, I'm very happy with the G410 in flat setting. It's been amazing for me so far.

Liked the G410 too in flat, but it was too long for the loft and still just looked closed to my eye. The apex looked and felt better and my front to back dispersion was better.

They custom order 2* flat completely eliminated the left side. It was a gamble. But man does it seem like I got exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for trolling, but try working on your reading comprehension next time! the 1/15 was how frequently my big hook showed up with the hybrid on trackman BEFORE I ordered it 2* flat.

The 99% was in reference to the range session/course today (second paragraph), and it was clearly an estimate.

This is what I’m trying to accomplish tbh.

I just found the option to get it flatter when I was pricing it on Callaway’s site because they had 6% cash back on Rakuten when I was buying. Wanted to see how much I’d save by buying preowned and saw the 2* flat option.

Really made a huge difference.

My 818 doesn't seem to be insanely draw biased paired up with a tensei white.... even with it turned up 1.5*. I think back in the day hybrids were made to cater to the "non-players" so they were anti-slice. Anything made in the last 2-3 years is pretty neutral as OEM's realize even better golfers want to use a hybrid over a long iron.

The only thing that beats the Callaway Apex '19 is the OG Apex. Both are great. I have mine 1* upright and it still never goes left unless I want it to.

Have been looking into the Apex 19 3H because of all these reviews being anti-left compared to others, but still leaning towards 5 wood just to get the higher flight. Decisions...

I think what they were getting at (or at least how I interpreted it) was that you hit over 90% of your shots straight with any number of hybrids before the flat setting. That 1/15 swings could be just attributed to a poor path/face angle relationship, a slightly too far toe side strike etc. Nothing the hybrid can do about that, that is your swing. I'm interested to try this flat setting now too don't get me wrong but it seems like 93% of your shots with other hybrids were pretty acceptable, glad you got to 100% tho.

When a customer came in complaining of the 'hooks' with a hybrid, the 3 I handed them were the Apex, G410, Titleist. After that, I would recommend a high lofted fwy. 5, 7, 9W are making a come back. After demoing one myself, I am a believer! Reviews are popping up on youtube on this subject.

In the past, everything went left-ER with hybrids. My stock iron shot is a very small draw (~5y), with my miss being a bigger draw and a rare hook.

Before the new addition, stock hybrids shots were 10-15 yard draw, with misses flying out of play left. So 10-14/15 behaved, but I had to aim right and account for an big draw on any hybrid shot, and I always got anxious about OB left, because that big miss crept in at the worst times. In contrast, I can count on my fingers the number of times I’ve hooked my T-MB 3i out of play, even on a miserable swing.

In addition, I couldn’t hit a fade with an hybrid for my life., or flight it down. With an iron I can. The point of a hybrid is to add forgiveness, not take it away... so while I’ve longed for the distance on my toe miss, or a little more spin with 20* loft, I’ve stuck with an iron and accepted a big drop of in distance when I strayed from center.

Lots of this I blamed on hybrids being very upright from the factory from most brands. And they also have some curvature to the face (makes toe side miss have more gear), and the fact many brands made these specifically for high-handicappers with lower swing speeds... I’m neither of these.

Hitting apex in stock on the trackman it was 5-7y draw on most shots. A touch more left than my flat irons, but manageable. My toe miss still went more left than I wanted, but not like the last few hybrids I had in the past (818 H1, Ping G30, M2).

In 2*flat as I ordered it, it’s going the same as my irons: straight the majority of the time, standard 5y draw common... but in the 30-45 shots I’ve hit so far, there hasn’t been a single legit hook “oh $?!@“ left miss like I’ve had in every other hybrid.

Hope that’s more clear. Please excuse the excited hyperbole of some of the posts.

Yep, I have the 4h and have to agree with the OP, probably the best hybrid I've tried, particularly for not going left so much. May have to get the 3h with a matching shaft.

Actually tried the Max pro hybrid at the same fitting... found it to look a little big and it went left more than the apex, so it was out... could have given it a touch more of a chance, tho.

A bit tougher issue considering you can’t adjust it.

‘As far as a different option, the g140 with loft added will make it more closed. The Mavrik max is more left bias too from what I understand.
