What era in golf holds a special place in your heart?

For me, it's 98-99. Those were my formative years in golf when I was a kid. So I will always look upon that time fondly remembering watching the majors on TV. Wishing I could buy all the latest gear, loving the trips to the driving range. Didn't get to play all that much as an early teen, but I did as I got older.

David Duval. Payne Stewart. Mark O'Meara. Wilson Fat Shaft irons. Cobra Gravity Back woods, Odyssey putters. Tiger v Sergio at the PGA. Jean Van De Veld at the Open.

Around ‘03-‘05. Weir wins the Masters. Phil’s “jump”. The Big 4/5. Vijay vs everyone... spikegate, “Tiger who”, Annika.

For me, 1967-72 and 1990-95.

I'm partial to Tom Watson's best years, 1974 to 1984.

I kinda like the 80's to early 90's … The music and golf = awesome. My formative years and university golf years

Hard to toss out the 70's with Jack and Johnny and Watson and Trevino and Weiskopf and Seve battling it out at majors

I was not alive during it but I absolutely love the late 50’s, 60’s and 70’s for golf. Nothing cooler than arnold Palmer and his army!

1999-05. I was just getting into playing seriously myself and am admittedly a big Tiger fan. Seeing him dominate then change his swing and make his way back over Vijay.

96 - 08

for me it would be 1977-1984 since I started watching in 1977

95-2004ish are my favorite to go back and watch. And I did not watch any of it live as I did not play or follow golf then. But it’s during my formative years of school , marrying and starting a business. So seems like the best years of human existence. Before we all were shackled completely.

70's for me. A plethora of stars, and I'm of that generation.

Early to mid 90s. It was just the right time to catch the older greats like Jack and Arnie and Trevino and Watson and Floyd still in playing shape on the - then - Seniors Tour then the likes of Freddie, Faldo, Daly, Phil, Vijay, Ernie, etc. And it was also cool to catch clips and read about this skinny kid from California - he was my age! - who was supposedly going to be the greatest ever; just snatching up Amateur championships like it was nothing.

Dang, what was that guy's name again?

I suppose the 40's and 50's, where many guys would drive from tournament to tournament and making a living playing golf was no sure thing. Now you can be 125th in the rankings and live a very comfortable life.

Late '80s. Big Curtis and Freddy fan.

'96-'06. Duval can and while not a crazy Tiger fan. What he was doing had my attention!! Guy was unreal.

I love golf up to about 5 years ago.

I have read an extensive amount of books about everything golf, from the beginning of time till the advent of the internet.

I love most all eras till social media turned the world into a cesspool.

2000-2008

Besides TW and Phil and Ernie and VJ, I remember the mix of guys was like...

Adam Scott, Sergio, Stuart Appleby!, Casey, Furyk, Goose, Padraig

Then you had

Jerry Kelly and I remember Kenny Perry had that great year. And Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Poulter, Cabrera.

Was a lot of fun to watch. Oh and Aquaman!

Ah, what a lovely question. It's not really an answer to that question, but I prefer watching golfers who do it their own way. Currently, that's Bubba, Goosen, and some of those whack-jobs on the Asian tours.

1991/1992. LA Open. Fred Couples. Balata balls and climbing ball flights. The Skins Game. Oh, and Sega Genesis PGA Tour. Loved creating by custom players - Ben Hogan and Tiger Woods.

About 1988 to about 1996, what i like to call the Faldo vs Norman years, i was a kid just getting into golf and faldo was a bit of a hero of mine, especially being English, the 96 masters is still one of my fave tournament of all time

Also had a bit of Seve in there, although he was on the decline sdly

Two answers for me

First is my choice as a viewer of pro golf. That would be when I started paying attention to golf, the late 90s, up through about 2008. Found several storylines riveting, Tiger's are-you-crazy- run, Phil's chase of his first major, Ernie continuing to be relevant, Padraig Harrington's breakthrough....

The second is the equipment side. I have a fascination with an era that spans a couple decades, and that really could be two separate eras. It's the 80s up thru the late 90s, before drivers got much in excess of 300cc. The split between the "could be two eras" is the persimmon era, and the 90s metal wood era. Not sure where it's come from, but I'm developing an interest in playing those sub-300cc drivers.

1964-1970, started in June of ‘63 as a teenager, remember seeing the sports headlines of The Masters, in ‘64, the scores of Arnold. Great fun was had those years growing up and playing.

I was right there when that happened as I worked nine holes for TSN getting yardages for Mark Rolfing.
