Caved Face on TItleist TS3 driver??

Saskwatch

Recommended Posts

I’m not 100% for certain but the face of my TS3 driver head looks to have a dent in the face. The lighting in my garage is excellent, almost too excellent. It’s surgical. Anyways, under certain angles it appears that near the top toe portion of the sweet spot (if that makes any sense) has a slight concave in thing going on. I rub my hand on it and it feels different, but I don’t know. It could be psychological lol. Performance seem ok? But I’m no scientist.

Heres the scenario. I bought this head from the BST in near brand new condition. Will titleist even consider looking at this based on the fact that I’m the second owner without a proof of purchase?

I can tell you that I bought a Ping G30 Ls tec at a Roger Dunn’s in Anaheim California, moved to Massachusetts, cracked the face of the club and brought it in to a Dicks and they sent it to Ping for a replacement.

if it is caused by hitting balls and you didn’t run it over with you car, then it’s a manufacturer’s defect, they will replace the club at any shop that sells Titleist TS’3.

At least that was what the guy from Dicks sporting goods told me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I never had to provide anything but the head, and Dicks handled the rest!

I would bet my pay on it that they will replace it. I cracked the face on a 913 and they gave me a 917, I cracked the 917 and they gave me a TS3. All for no charge.

When I cracked the face of my Ping G30 Ls Tec it was a few models back, the G410 LST had been out for a few months. I was given free options if the G, the G400, but ended up paying half price for the G419 lst because the G was not an LS tec and the G 400’s that were available were all 10 or 10.5 if I remember. If they had a G400 LST at 8.5, I would have jumped at that instead of getting the G410 lst.

if my G30 was a newer model, G,G400.... then I would have got the replacement if they had it in, or the G410 for free ?

I was able to get the G410 lst in 9 degree, plus pick my shaft, and grip..... as a matter of fact, I could have had them hot melt and digitally loft since I was paying for it.

1/2 price, plus $100 off discount that they ran on the G410 lst ended up putting me back $180 after taxes ? easy decision for me ?

I had my (former, just sold it) TS3 face crack after a marathon range session with almost frozen ProV1 range balls. It was around 40 degrees, but I'm sure the balls were colder than that. The pro at my course was kind enough to work with the Titleist representative and they replaced the head for free, no questions asked. Moral of the story is I won't hit a full pyramid of range balls in almost freezing temps again!

GT employee here (part time tech guy). From what I know the club has have the original head and shaft as it was shipped for retail. If the shaft was changed afterward or even if the head was switched with a titlesist stock shaft (but not the original combination) - Titleist will refuse to change the head.

As for original ownership I don't remember. That isn't as bad as GT can just claim you had bought it at one of their stores.

Good luck - hope the stores open soon! Quebec stores are closed until further notice.

OP - take a credit card edge and put it against the face. You'll be able to tell pretty easily if you've caved the face or not. And you don't need any proof of purchase. Don't even mention you're not the original owner. Just say your face caved and you'd like Titleist to replace it. It's a current model year club, so it'll get replaced no questions asked.

Also - "If the shaft was changed afterward or even if the head was switched with a titlesist stock shaft (but not the original combination) - Titleist will refuse to change the head." That part is definitely not true. Has someone at Titleist actually told you that? Or did you hear that from someone else? If someone told you that, you should've asked to speak to the manager or hang up, then call back and get a different rep. Shafts for drivers are swapped on retail sales floors all the time to get the proper head model, loft, shaft model and flex that the consumer wants. That has no bearing on the warranty of the product.

The 913 was played for two release cycles. I never expected anything but a friend from golf town said send it back anyway, they may give you the option of a fun bucks off a new 917, to my surprise he called me and said come pick up your 917 no charge.

Yes, this is directly from Titleist. I had a similar incident when a client came in with a cracked head (don't remember the model) but he had changed the shaft on his own. We called Titleist and they refused the warranty. My experience only, you may have had a different experience.

Not at all. Had the 913 from release date until half way through the 917 cycle. Also I had a different shaft in and and they only sent the head back. I started a post on this site back when it happened. And posted my results.
