identifying an unmarked shaft in old 60's MacGregor CF4000 Colorchrome irons???

Wondering if anyone might be able to tell me what type of shaft would be in a set of old MacGregor CF4000's Colorchrome irons, early 60's with no label on the shaft itself.

I have no pictures but have been informed there are 15 steps in the shaft. Can you tell by that?

Will be easier to tell if you can post a pic (at least of the club head) as there was a change from Pro-pel to Tourney Action shafts during that time. Club model number will provide the flex with 1 being the stiffest.

Are you looking to figure out the shaft model or flex? The FC4000’s from 1959-1962 all used Pro-Pel shafts and the model number on the head indicates the shaft flex. PT1=Stiff, PT2=Regular, PT3=Senior, PT4=Ladies.

Oh wow. That's priceless info dejaid! Thank you. Was mostly after the flex. I did get some pictures. I don't know what the model is on the head. I never really noticed. I'll have to go back and look. These are the pix I rounded up.

oh boy, I fear these, stamped "M2", based on the above are probably regular flex? I'm looking for stiff. Also, they're the black ceramic faces, which I don't think is the colorchrome, although I don't know a lot about the MacGregors.

My experience with the Propel shafts is that they generally play stiffer than their flex designation. The FC 4000 irons came out after the Colokrom's.

You have a set of 1963-64 Macgregor MT irons with the then new Tourney Action shaft in regular flex. And yes, they are not Colokrom faces which were copper, the FC is Flame Ceramic.

Raggal and DJ nailed it dead in the screws correct. And like Raggal said those old shafts play a stiffer flex than a modern R shaft. They are heavier and thicker walled than a modern shaft. I have 2 sets of copper faced Macs and 2 sets of the FCs and I prefer the FCs.

Thank you all for helping me. I really appreciate it. My Dad had a set somewhat like these. I don't know the specifics. I used to steal a club out of his bag in the garage and load my pockets with balls and go hit shots around the school yard field. There were a number of occasions he then went and played and found himself missing a 7 iron. After enough of those incidents, I finally got my own set of clubs when I was about 9. I wanted to get a set of these for the memories and just really did know much about MacGregor irons.

Propels had more steps and slightly softer tips than the Tourney Action shafts

Black faced CF4000 was my first set bought close to 50 sets ago. Aside from current set of Apex 19s the CF4000s are the only set I still have. Bought them from a client in 1975 or 76 for $75.00 3-pw . He won a new set in raffle and I just started in golf.
