This is the most bizarre thing I've come across - re: S300 AMT codes Dallas Golf

Hack Daddy

Recommended Posts

These aren't listed in the DG shaft code thread, and this is honestly the first time I've come across this. Bought a new set of clubs, pulled the shafts and grips and found the following:

DGAMTS300-

3i - 385

4i - 385

5i - 38

6i - 38

7i - 37.5

8i - 37.5

9i - 37

PW - 37

I know the answer already, but just need another opinion before I drop the hammer.

Thanks in advance.

I think he is saying that there are only four different shafts in his iron set. There should be eight different shafts. They are all butt cut to proper length though. They may have also been hard stepped. Is that correct?

So are those the numbers etched on the butt of the shafts, or the actual measured lengths? If it's the etching, looks like someone hard or soft stepped every other club and then butt-cut to desired playing length. If it's just the measure length once pulled, maybe a "modified" attempt at a single length set?

Were they purchased new? They would play strange as a set.

Purchased as brand new. Pulled them because I only wanted the heads.

This story gets even crazier, though...

Sold the shafts to a local gentleman that bought a 4i from the same retailer, and they put a 6i shaft in his purchased club. So he buys mine, unknowingly, thinking he'll just chalk up his 4i, and re-shaft with this set. He and I get to talking, and we start connecting the dots. We pull the grips, and sure enough, repeat offender.

Put him on blast. (Somewhere appropriate). He’s ripping people off to save money on purchasing shafts. Probably using odds and ends he has lying around to finish builds.

This is my thinking as well. Let me get with a mod first, since this place is a decent size retailer, and figure out a proper way to do this. Superman has banned me so many times, I don't feel like sitting out another 180 day temp ban, lol.

Yep, that's bizzare.

Looks like a straight in 38.5 is supposed to be for the 6 iron, so 3 iron is hard-stepped 3x, 4 iron HS 2x, 5 iron HS 2x, 6 iron HS 1x, 7 iron HS 1x, 8/9/W irons straight in? Not sure the logic there. And you say bought them new? Where did you get them from? You might be able to provide serial number to OEM and they might be able tell if it was a custom order that someone did intentionally, but if you ordered direct from OEM you would know that already, so really curious how you got them.

Brick and mortar & online retailer.

As I said earlier, I'm in agreeance with the consensus here. I just need to make sure I don't get myself banned for taking that step. I've been banned for less...

So you bought these new "off the rack". say from GG or PGASS, and this is the way they came? Do you mind sharing the brand? To be THAT screwed up it would seem like they had to be a custom ordered set that the buyer then backed out off and the retailer was stuck with. I mean, there is some "progression" in the mess, so maybe someone ordered like that on purpose and then changed their mind - that's the only thing I can think of to make them that screwed up?

You didn't exactly say, but I took from your first post that these are in "brand new" and not just "new to you"? Also, it's kinda vague what you mean by "drop the hammer" and fear of being banned for taking "that step"? If you are referring to calling out the retailer and they are a sponsor here, I'd just be civil about it and give them a chance to make it right or refund/replace them. If those are really the specs I can't see where anyone could fault you for calling them out.

Loosely related but a small rant if my own...I am finding more and more that club repair shops just throw in whatever shaft they've got and call it a day assuming the client will never know the difference. And in most cases, they probably wouldn't. I've bought pulls from big online sellers that are advertised as 5-Pw only to find out they are actually 3-8 that were cut and gripped or something like that or randoms mixed in. I just feel like they could take the extra step to make sure what they are selling is accurate.

Thanks for letting me vent, OP...this kind of stuff has just struck a nerve with me lately.

Same exact experience for me except I buy a lot from the used club retailers during sales/deals to satisfy my own tinkering/build interests. Irons are certainly the toughest nut to crack and you really have no idea, aside from a couple tricks I've learned, what's happened to them before they get to you. I've come out ahead many more times than not and truthfully the used club sites can only do so much being the middleman. The scenario described here and the fact that it happens at the beginning with the initial build or repair is extremely frustrating and concerning.

Very interested to know which retailer it is.

Yeah, I know it's a risk to buy anything online and I've only had it happen a few times. I completely understand when you're dealing with that kind of volume you can't pull grips and measure step patterns and all that. I've never had an issue making a return if I have needed it, just sucks to waste time thinking I'm getting what I need. Again, just venting, lol.

Started buying all of my clubs last year from reps or discount dan’s so it comes straight from the manufacturer. A few years ago, I bought a new epic and couldn’t hit it. The irony was my buddy had the same club with the exact same shaft (hitting his was the reason I bought mine), I could hit his 270 with a draw and hit mine 230 with a 30 yard block fade. My buddy couldn’t hit mine either. He bought his directly from Callaway, I bought mine from a reputable online seller. Obviously, something didn’t add up. Fortunately the seller gave me some money back but I was still out a few bucks. Just sucks that you can’t really trust many people anymore...

Disclaimer: my dealings with them have always been excellent, so no piling on from me as I've had no negative experiences. This was my guess though just based on the fact that they are one of the only online places to offer built-to-order irons, shafts, etc., and not just taking orders for manufacturers.

Hopefully it gets resolved in some form.
