The guys with the "big" mortgages i'm guessing have sponsorships that will cover all of their basics, or have just earned enough money to be fine for a long time. But many of the less established tour players i imagine this will hit them pretty hard. I wonder if some on the fringes this could be enough for them to look at different careers going forward

I don't know how UI works in the US (or even in Canada that well) but i imagine their are some benefits for independent contractors, though maybe i am wrong.

In Quebec , my wife was entitled to maternity benefits for example, and she is an independent contractor

With Golf Town closed indefinitely in Canada, I and alll my fellow Custom fitters have been laid off as have all Sales Associates. Golftecs in our stores are equally affected. As a retired high school teacher I am fortunate to have a comfortable pension. I may be able to apply for a small Unemployment Benefit this coming Tuesday but at this point am undecided.

They are 1099 employees or created as an s Corp and/or llc

1099 employees can get around $2500/month and if they are an s Corp, they can get a small business Covid loan...llcs are exempt

They can collect unemployment as independent contractors are allowed to collect unemployment during this time. Typically independent contractors cannot collect unemployment, but the government changed it due to the current circumstances.

But I can't see them collecting unemployment. The most you can collect now in Florida is $875/week. That's not going to pay off anything. Most of these guys are taken care of financially and likely have some sort of insurance policy that protects them financially during times like this.

This case will likely more apply to the caddies.

Contractors are eligible for $600 per week from Federal...part of the CARES act. It is still administered by the state agencies.

Sole proprietors are listed in the first applications which opened on the 3rd. I don’t know how they are drawn up as entities. But some likely have actual payrolled employees so they can file for the payroll protection , and likely include themselves in some instances. If they normally are inside that payroll.

I wonder about caddies? Maybe some of the players are paying their caddies while this is going on?

While filling out my unemployment online (Texas), there was a place to check if you are a professional athlete...I'm a golf professional but Not a professional golfer.

KFT caddie here.....havent heard of any player on either tour paying their guy.

Valspar have given the PGA caddies an early pay out on money that they earned based on their players performances. This money is typically given out at the end of the year but given the circumstances they've paid out the caddies what they've earned so far.

know a lady who was cut down from full time to 3/4 the hours. She’s asking her more well to do co workers to make up the difference with donations out of their salaries. I think the state would make up the difference but they are really pressuring people to give to her. I’m in the No camp. I like the teach someone how to fish mentality and this person has trouble controlling spending (vacations , shopping, luxury)

its also a political tightrope too, these personal gofundmes just kinda rub me the wrong way for some reason. I think other systems should exist that are less personal
