Moderators - Please correct the name of this Category

Perhaps GolfWRX members who live in the Irish Republic are too polite to ask, but, they and their golf courses are not in the UK. How about renaming it "GB & I" ?

It isn't a controversial thing. Ireland is not part of the UK. I don't know anyone that thinks it is. It is simply a basic lack of knowledge. Not an argument like, for example, calling Taiwan part of China. That one is an actual issue. This one isn't. Basic facts.

Your post seemed to indicate that it was. I couldn't possibly care less about what Iowa is or isn't and don't see how it applies.

Gee, it applies because it is in the wrong sub-forum, just like . . . . Ireland (apparently so, I didn't formulate the categories).

Lighten up, and no, my post was nothing but a little humor. Nothing about it indicated anything controversial and no reason to get all whatever about it.

I support geographic correctness. My requests in the past to have Iowa moved to the Midwest, which it most assuredly is, never went anywhere, but I didn't worry about it too much and, like Ireland in the UK forum, about as many people post about Iowa anyway in the Midwest sub-forum. I'll admit Great Plains is a lot closer to Iowa than Europe would seem to be Ireland (and I doubt the intent was to have people post about Ireland under Europe).

Born and raised in the Midwest, in Iowa, but on both sides of the family most of my great, great, greats were from Ireland. Others . . . Sweden - my mom's dad's parents came here early 20th century.

Now that the UK has formally left the EU it seems right and proper to rename the grouping as UK&I or more traditionally GB&I, the latter being the old Ryder Cup designation before Europe came in.

As for Iowa there does seem to be a controversy but to this Aussie it appears to be more about a conventional rather than official designation? Looking at the map, Iowa is directly south of Minnesota and so to my eye it would be in the same basket ie Midwest

I don't think calling someone from Iowa Midwestern is offensive.

Plenty of Irish people get offended by confusing Ireland as part of the UK.

Pennsylvania is less than 100 miles from the Atlantic Ocean yet many sources consider it a midwestern state.

I think just being from Iowa is offensive,?. (That’s just for Hawkeye, since I’m from Nebraska I figure I can safely say that, since the two places are essentially the same).

Ive always gotten a laugh out of the geographic designations. I believe the geographic center of the continental US is in Kansas. How can that not be “mid”. Like Hateto3putt said above, some consider Pennsylvania midwest!? I suppose (maybe) those came about a long time ago?

Haha - not sure why a tongue in cheek comment about where Iowa is categorized in the sub-forum sparked anything but there you are. Yes we are Midwest, not Great Plains. Yes, it's not the same culturally as Ireland being considered part of the UK.

Just glad Nebraska is our geographical neighbor and not Ohio! ;-)
