US Open Postponed to September 14-20

Got my email a few minutes ago. Still scheduled for Winged Foot but I think it will end up cancelled. Started the ticket refund process.

Agree. Can’t see it being held that close to this country’s epicenter. I have heard of soem

possible alternate sites. Two in the rotation and one outside is rotation.

I'm not a health expert. Hosting large events in Sep seems a bit too optimistic. And hosting it in the state of New York seems way too optimistic.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are further changes down the road based on recommendation from the health officials. And hopefully, we'll have U.S. Open this calendar year somewhere in the U.S.

To the OP; well said. I concur, and I am glad that you raised the issue in the first post.

We'd all like to see golf again, and all of the majors. I just think that this plan is aspirational bordering on the irresponsible.

Winged Foot is in the little Westchester County town of Mamaroneck. An hour north of NYC, and minutes from the viral epicenter in New Rochelle. It is one of the most travel-cramped places that the USGA goes to.

And remember; there is the matter of world-wide qualifying three weeks before the hoped-for date.

I deeply question the USGA's action on this, and I wonder if they felt pressure to go ahead with at least a plan to hold the tournament this fall. I will want to learn a lot more about how they came to this decision, and how they may be hedging their bets, allowing ticket holders to get their money back, etc.

Not pertinent to this thread, but I think that the PGA Championship in August in San Francisco is a Seth Waugh pipe dream.

Postponing to a tentative date certain isn't irresponsible - it's merely aspirational. No tickets are being sold apparently and what is there to "deeply question" - a tentative date is announced, previous tickets being refunded and pretty much nothing else going on so have a little patience and wait and see what actually happens in the coming weeks, months. It's out there, they have a date that may work. Noted.

From a psychological perspective it’s a brilliant move by the USGA. People need something to look forward too. With so much unknown it’s nice to at least try and see the light at the end of the tunnel. And if it doesn’t happen then so be it.

Agree. I'm just glad they are allowing refunds for those of us that bought tickets and either weren't going to go or can't go with the new dates. As I said I doubt it goes ahead at all.

Just a note here that the areas that peak early will emerge early. New York comes immediately to mind. However if there is a second wave...

once again the Masters makes the most sense. Why not play the US Open and PGA south in December. Planning a PGA in August is crazy. Who makes these plans??
