Maltby DBM in place of G410 of last year. Dropped down from 17 to 15, now on hold....
43 yo here and haven’t seen a massive distance loss (but they feel like a different game), but probably it has to do with better ball striking due to recent lessons.
Had Mizuno MP-25’s for some time now. Flirted with TaylorMade P790’s after being seduced on trackman hitting off mats 🤦🏼♂️. Couldn’t take a divot to save myself with them on course.
About to move into Titleist T100’s - turf interaction is a thing and they’re spectacular at it.
I am an 11 hcp and my irons are Titleist 718 AP1 6-W. Went with a graphite shaft which was a good decision. Less shoulder pain and good distance.
Just switched to Exotics EXS with Tensei blue shafts. I find myself going more GI over the last few years. I don't mind the larger more forgiving clubs. I play my best golf when I hit greens in regulation so I focus on that metric to guide my game. If I hit 9 greens I typically break 80 its that simple for me.
18 handicap. Mizuno 919 Hot Metal. Great irons.
Wow, I have the Cobra Amp irons (2012 GI) and am in the process of upgrading the entire bag except the putter. Before the virus had a chance to be fit into the Driver, 3 wood, and hybrids. Now searching for the irons. Bummed I cannot try anything right now. At least I am playing golf. I am seriously looking at trying a hollow body iron and all of the technology that goes with that. But a hollow body in a game improvement or near game improvement. Have my eye on the Honma TW-X, Muira IC-610, and maybe Taylormade P790 TI. But I did have the chance to try the JPX Hot Metal before my store shut and I liked that iron. The only issue is that Mizuno and Srixon are likely to have new stuff in late summer. But with the virus I wonder if that will be pushed back.
Currently M5’s with project x rifle 6.5 shafts. I tend to hit it really high. Probably still considered game improvement irons but I like the top like and more compact shape compared to super game improvement irons. Hopefully my next set in a couple years are moving more towards players irons just because I like the top line look
TM 2017 M2 9° - MCA Tensei CK Pro White 60TX
TM M4 3w - MCA Tensei CK Pro White 70TX
TM M3 3h - Project X HZRDUS 85 6.5
TM M5 4-PW - Project X Rifle 6.5 +0.5" 1° up
Vokey SM5 F 52°, SM6 M 56°, SM5 M 60°
Scotty Cameron 2018 Newport 2 35"
Vice Pro Plus Yellow
14 trending downwards, and I play the Cleveland Launcher CBXs 4-PW. Good distance with enough spin to hold greens. I would also recommend the CBX 2 wedges if you are struggling with that part of your game.
HCP 12 - TM P760 w/ PX LZ 6.0
Have been Playing 2014 Cally Apex 4-AW with Steelfiber I95 S. Am now 65yo, thinking about either softstepping them 1x or even 2x or replacing with Reg I95 sf. Dont quite flush them as i did 5-6 years ago. but when i do, they still fly.
I'm at a 10.8 Handicap right now and have been playing Callaway X20 irons for about 8 or so years now. However, I just purchased the Apex 19 irons and am waiting for them to ship so I am pretty excited about that.
JPX-900 Hot Metal 4-PW w/ Project LZ graphite. I'm a 13.8 index. Love'em. Between the jacked lofts and the hot club face, I've added a club and a half to my three previous sets of Mizzy irons
Usually float in the 9-12 cap range.
Currently Cobra T-Rails 6-SW
Previous: Cleveland Altitudes and G700’s.
Callaway Epic Flash 12*
Callaway Epic Flash Heavenwood
Exotics Xrail 4h | 5h
Cobra T-Rail 6-SW
Cleveland CBX 60*
Callaway Sure Out
Ping Sigma 2 Tyne 4 Platinum
Titleist ProV1x Yellow
I play Mizuno JPX 919 Tour/Forged/HMP combo. Tour 6-PW, Forged 5 iron, Hot Metal Pro 4 iron.
I am roughly a 12 handicap and have found that playing players irons that are smaller has improved my ball striking. I feel there is no where to hide, so I am forced to focus on making good contact and staying more controlled in my swing.
Played from 36 down to a 16 in a season with Wilson D300. Have now gotten fitted for a Wilson D7 Forged for this season.
Hc hovering around 14 for the past few years. Ive come to terms that my distance from my youth is gone. Being 60, I am trying to adjust. So I have been trying to find a game improvement iron that will give me the workability and some distance back. I even got fitted for a set of Taylormade M5's on a regular shaft, but did not like the interaction of the sole thru the turf (I hit a lot of knock down shots). So the list of clubs for last year was
So we shall see how this works when the courses open up for the season after the pandemic lifts.
I tell people that the safest sport is Golf... but they don't believe me.
13-15 range last year. Using 919 forged G-8 and 919 Hot Metal 5-7. Funny thing is I tend to hit my forged much better than the hot metal. 8 iron is money for me every time and I can't hit the 7 well. Think I'm going to replace the HM 7 with a forged this year and just have the HM 5-6.
13 hcp here, got fitted earlier in February and ended up with p790's with nippon ns neo shafts
When I first started getting back into golf a few years ago, I had TaylorMade r11 irons, they were great for a beginning forgiving set. I upgraded to the King Cobra F8 irons and love them! They are more punchful in hitting and great deal of forgiveness for me. I'm right around a 18 handicap. Unfortunately irons are too much my weakness as it is my driving and not staying in the fairway off the tee, and chipping I'm working on as well. Would recommend anyone to try out the F8 irons or even the F9 or higher!
Srixon Z585 best of both worlds (Looks,Feel, Forgiving, Long) - currently a 8 HDCP
13-15 HC range.
full set of Mizuno MP20 HMBs. very happy with them. my goal was to find a club with some forgiveness that will also give me the feedback I need to become a better ball striker. besides, they a beauties.
I also have a set of MP-32s which I plan on bringing into play if/when I can get down to single digits. I love the feel of well struck shots with the MP32s, but they're still too few and far between. The MP20 HMBs feel great and are a pleasure to play, so no complaints.
Another option for if/when I improve is to gradually replace the HMBs with MP20 MBs or MMCs from P down.
Callaway Apex 19. I might have to check the PXG 0211's. Really like my Apex tho.
Floating around a 10-12 handicap at the moment. Currently playing a set of Mizuno MP-60s, prefer that softness and workability of a forged cavity back after growing up playing Ping Eye 2s for so many years. Have tried game improvement TaylorMades and Callaways on occasion, but while being able to hit it pretty straight, just can’t get used to the lack of feel. That being said, just got a set of Titleist 718 CB heads and looking forward to get out with them when I can get the right shafts installed after all this settles down.
Currently a 9 but fluctuate between 9-11. I play Srixon Z745's. Definitely a players look and shape, but they are surprisingly forgiving.
I saw a huge improvement in distance control when I switched to these from my AP1 GI set that I bagged for years.
With a one-piece forging, you hit it on the button and you know it's going the distance it's supposed to go.
My index bounces between 7.5 and 9.5.
Played Srixon Z765 Modus 105 stiff for all of 2018, but after an injury, they became just a little too demanding for me on off days.
Now playing Cobra Forged Tec Black 6-GW with Steelfiber 95cw R, which I just had reshafted after a fitting at Hot Stix in Scottsdale.
Today will be my first round with them. Had a couple of range sessions.
Was playing Modus 105 Stiff before. I'm coming up on 59 and and my 6iron SS is 80-82.
15 HDCP, playing Ping G410 irons I got for xmas.
Or was playing anyway, until global calamity struck.
I play with the G410 irons, I really like how they look enjoy the forgiveness they give...I was playing the Titleist T300 in steel and I switched to graphite...playing much better now..
8.3 handicap. I play a split set of Mizuno MP 18 MB from PW to 6 and MP 18 SC in my 5 and 4 irons, both in KBS C-taper 130 X flex
15 handicap and I play the Ping i500's with the PX LZ 6.5. I hit with a boatload of spin and these were the ticket at my Club Champion fitting.
11.4 - Have been playing Titleist 712 CB 4-7 + MB 8-PW w/ PX6.0 shafts; just picked up a set of Mizuno MP-69's, plan on putting them in play post-quarantine with the same shafts pulled from my old Callaway XR's
Moving from GI to players iron has helped my game significantly, dropped 2 strokes last summer and shot my personal best of 81. Practice seems much more efficient and there is a lot more learning to be gained from hitting less forgiving clubs, hopefully the improvement trend continues...
