How much would you pay to play Augusta?

For the sake of argument, let's say Augusta National decides to raise money for a charity by inviting 25 non members to play there the week after the Masters. A lotto system so everyone gets a chance and there is no bidding war. How much are you willing to pay for this once in a lifetime opportunity?

Not that it matters since any thread that gets posts and gives us all something to do is a good thing, but I know there is at least one older thread on that topic that had a lot of replies. Hopefully this one will get the same. But the old one is worth looking at too.

Personally, probably not anymore than I payed for Pebble. Around $650.

I bet if the price was 10k, there would still be a huge amount of people who would do it. Me included.

I would be willing to argue with my wife that it is only fair that I get to spend what I spent on her engagement ring, so about 15k lol. Realistically I could drop $2,000 right now and not think twice. More than that would be a decision. I'd rather play 36 at Pebble/Cypress for less.

I wouldn't even think twice about $1k. I would probably need spousal approval to go as high as $5k.

I would max out at $5k. That seems like a reasonable limit for me for a likely once in a lifetime opportunity. I am still holding out hope that I get an accidental invite some day. Living in Atlanta I know several people who have played twice, and a few that are well connected with members at both Peachtree and AGNC. I don't have near enough clout to be the primary invite, but there is a realistic possibility that I will be standing next to someone who gets an invite and I get a pity invite.

I’d say $1500 but I’d want to play the par 3 with that price as well. And I’d stay there all day long!

I'd happily part with 5,000 CAD ... so for all y'all that would be $3,586.84 USD

Augusta is the only course I'd consider paying a ridiculous green fee to play. All the other ones, no matter how they rank, aren't even in the conversation.

I think if I got an actual, living breathing real offer to play Augusta, I'd probably try to find any way I could to pay the fee. My train of thought is that an offer like that is truly a once-in-a-lifetime offer. How often are average Joe's like us going to get an offer like that? In my mind, you jump on it.

I once considered Pebble a once-in-a-lifetime round when I played it back in 2013. But that's public. All I gotta do is save up my $$, book a stay-and-play package, and it's done.

Even if I went on here and said "max I'd pay for Augusta is $2500", and someone came along and said "I could get you on, but it'll be $5000", I would hate myself if I didn't go for it.

over 1000 people a year attempt to climb mount everest. Most will pay between 50-100k to make the attempt. Im guessing that less than 1000 common folk play AN annually. My hunch is that actual numbers would be more in line with climbing Everest. As far as bucket lists go, AN is probably more rare.

While I get the point being made, Everest takes 40+ days to climb. That 50-100k is for 2 months of supplies, support, etc. Not 4 hours of walking. It is crazy the amount of people that attempt it though, to have that money and time must be nice! But to your point, people will pay/sacrifice to scratch something off their bucket list.

If they auctioned 25 spots, it would take at least $25k to make the cut. My limit is $5k.

Oh my goodness, watching an auction for that would be spectacular. There would be so much interest It might take the $25K just to buy a bidder badge for the auction. The bids could get crazy. I’m thinking Barrett-Jackson on mega steroids. That place proves there are a lot of people with more money than brains (for the record, I have neither).

I think it would be far more than this. At least $100K. There are a lot of rich people out there. I'm always surprised to learn how much initiation is at some clubs I've never really heard of. How many courses in LA or NYC have initiations over $100K? My guess is more than 50. That means thousands of people are paying 6 figure to play a course you don't know. Whenever I drive around an average city (lets say Kansas City for example), there are huge neighborhoods with hundreds of houses that cost more than $1M. My point being, that even though a small percentage of people are "rich", it comes out to a pretty large number of people if you add them up.

That's not even factoring in rich Japanese and other overseas golfers who would happily pay for a round at Augusta. I'm like the rest of you in that I would pay a few grand to play, but if you auctioned off one tee time a day for 6 months, I wouldn't be shocked if that foursome some for a million.

    $1mil+ per person easy.

An auction would be a hoot - if they kept it private there'd be enough old school/finance/tech folks no prob - if they made it public there'd be enough athletes/actors/musicians.
