Members Choice: Best sunglasses of 2020

Recommended Posts

The bedrock of GolfWRX.com is the community of passionate and knowledgable golfers in our forums, and we put endless trust in the opinions of our GolfWRX members — the most knowledgeable community of golfers on the internet. No other group of golfers in the world tests golf clubs as frequently or as extensively, or is armed with such in-depth information about the latest technology.

So, WRXers, we're asking for your input on the best golf sunglasses of 2020.

Before we get to the polling, however, we'd like you to help us narrow down the shortlist.

Please list your choice. And if you see your choice mentioned already, well, don't mention it, because it's already been counted. In a perfect world, there would be no repeat mentions.

Can never get behind playing in shades. Tried them all Oakley, Rayban, Costa. Still don’t play in shades and likely never will, but Shady Rays makes some great sunglasses. Have a pair of “clubmasters” and “Aviators” and love them both. When holding them up against a pair of raybans you can definitely tell the difference in quality of the frames. But the lenses are every bit as good and for a pair of polarized shades for less than $50 they are a hell of a deal and look phenomenal. My vote goes to Shady Rays.

They are money. I have a copper mirror pair, they darken if brighter out. Techlite + I think. Polarized, photochromic lenses. Perfect for golf.

My other pair is bronze mirror. But the chromapop, so lighter plastic lenses.

For me, the best golf lenses I have found are Electric California Knoxvilles with the Rose tint. They were the first company I saw with this type of lense color "designed" for golf. Going on two years and they work the best for me on course.

For non-golf, Maui Jim is my favorite - versatile, great designs, lightweight, awesome polarization.

Oakleys are good, though I did think the regular golf Prizm was too bright on super crystal clear days. Hear that the Dark Prizm is good. Getting to that stage in life where I don't care what I look like in this area - just want the best function. The EVZero Blades might be the trick because they basically have no frames in view and are SUPER lightweight. But I can't find them anywhere to try on OR to buy with the Dark Prizm golf lenses. Oakley.com had them for a minute but with some weird color combo.

I had been a Costa guy for a few years but the rubber pieces separate from the plastic after a year or two. Shady Rays was running a 50% off sale and I got in on it. I am impressed with the quality of the lenses. The frames are nothing really to write home about but they do the job of holding the lenses and are comfortable.

The "mystery pair" special they run is a great bargain as well. I was pleasantly surprised with what they were. I wasn't going to pick that frame but glad they came as they are nice.

Knoxville Pro with Rose OHM lens. Absolutely phenomenal. I wear them everywhere. Testing has shown that Rose-tinted lenses are the best for depth perception on green-colored surfaces while maintaining great glare reduction. These lenses have also been treated so that they don't fog up or accumulate water. I'm a sweaty guy playing in South Texas humidity, and they've never slipped off my nose, never fogged up, and are not hot on my face. I could not recommend these more - I got my pair for $50 brand new on eBay.

Maui Jim Ho’okipa with rose lenses, and Maui Jim World Cup in Marlin finish. Love my MJs. I have a little bit of a sunglasses problem, especially since my eyesight has started to falter just a little. Good excuse to buy new shades. Next up are MJ Cook Pines.

I have the Oakley Target Lines with the golf prizm lenses, and they are fine, but the frame is a bit big and gets uncomfortable after a while, and the lens is basically see-through from the front, so they look pretty weird on. I basically don’t wear them anymore, which is a shame because I got them customized and so I can’t really sell them or anything.

Roka is making a splash. I just ordered a pair of prescription Dragon Alliance, who are also getting some positive press. I do have a prescription Oakley set, and they are great, but the tint is not right seeing the greens. I wear bifocals and usually just rear my normal non tented glasses. However, this all changes when I get my Dragons. I got, polarized transitions.. It may be a costly experiment on the course, but I need them in the hot shop as well....

Oakley Flak Prizm. Love the frames/shape. Lenses give great contrast and aren't very dark (I dont want my golf lenses to make things dark, its not the beach). Also, like that I switch out to low light lenses in the winter/fog. One thing I'd add is some of the other brands tend to make their golf lenses polarized so another reason I like these is the non-polarized option. I love polarized lenses for the beach/driving, but I read greens better with non-polarized lenses.

Oakley makes the sunglasses to transform a tool. You’d hate for the kids to think you lost your cool. I like fit and look of Holbrook but haven’t experimented with different lenses. I’d like to try Stenson’s fave cyborg lookin shades but gotta get under 3 index to rock those.
