First round of golf after lockdown

Roejye

Recommended Posts

So my state lifted it's lockdown regulations on golf and I played my first round. I played at a course called Columbia. It was a lot of fun, especially once I warmed up and started playing with good tempo. I practiced putting a lot during the off-season, apparently it was all a waste of time, and I'm not entirely certain how far I can actually hit my clubs lol. All in all I had a good time, and I know what I need to work on.

Mike Tyson said it well "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth," it's worse when you punch yourself in the mouth. I tried my hand at course management today, and the planning went well, eventually the execution caught up.

I think the greens were in decent condition for me, but I'm going to use your description as an excuse for my ridiculously poor putting. Seriously only had 1 2 putt and if I was playing strict rules of golf it skimmed over the fun noodle inside the cup so that would have been a 3 putt.

They're opening courses in Riverside County here in CA - which happens to be home to some of my faves. Oak Quarry and Goose Creek come to mind.

Oof, but a month with no practice aside from Planemate protocols in my backyard with whiffle balls? Yikes.

Finally got to play today. My course has been open throughout this thing, but because other course have closed it has been absolutely packed. Three times I’ve tried to walk on as a single only to sit and wait and not be called. Played the white tees for the first 12 holes and shot a fairly stress free 74.

Ah man I'm so jealous! We are still on full lock down in the UK with no end in sight, what I would give to chop it round a course right now!

I am finally playing tomorrow.. Thrilled, but I feel a little guilty as much as I have asked my family to shelter. No expectations other than different scenery and plenty of mulligans, maybe a slipped disc.. Greystone in Dickson TN at 11:45 if anyone what to shout out from a hole or 2 away..

Played my first round today at Bluff Creek. I used to play a lot at Columbia when I lived in St Paul. I like that course, but hated that hole. Hahaha. Stay safe.

I mentioned this in another thread, but for those in milder climate areas, do you feel like April is a bit of a lost month usually? Here in MD, the weather can still be cold, windy, and rainy through the month and rough hasn't started to grow yet. We usually have two throwaway weeks due to aeration mixed in.

Practicing is what I miss, I'm going to play like a dumpster fire the first few rounds back.

I agree with April being a lost month... I tend to spend a lot of time grinding at the range trying to re-find my swing after a long winter.

I'm just happy I'll be able to do anything golf related, with my first round being played Sunday afternoon.

Had a good laugh yesterday. Short game was gone! Everything else was much the same. I played all winter, last game before yesterday was March 8 so it has not been that long really. But for comparison I played 21 times between Nov 10 and March 8. Still, I could tell the feel was gone from 100 and in, and putting was horrible though I seemed to make the longer ones and miss every one inside 5ft., grain of salt because I am sitting at 11.2 hcp. so how much short game feel do I really have.

Great to get out, and the course was absolutely packed! Booked solid through 5pm..

I posted elsewhere on here that I finally got out on Tuesday. Funny set up.. early forecast was 68* and sunny, with possible some AM rain. We were 1:10 and 1:20. Every day leading up to the round the rain got pushed back and the wind prediction went way up. About an hour and a half before the round it had rained a little and the sun was back out and it was warm. I left my house in shorts and a polo. Regret. Wound up buying a FJ rain coat at the course. It started raining just as we teed off. By the 3rd hole the rain stopped and the wind kicked in. It was blowing the hat off of my head.

As a 14 cap my last round was an 83. Good round for me, but in my wheel house as normal. I shot 98. Airated greens. Amazingly awful course design. 25-30MPH winds. One hole.. 200+ carry over water to a 90* dogleg. Surprisingly I made it being right into the wind. 2nd shot was 2 choices, 130 to lay up or 200 yards to clear the next marsh, now with a 25 mph cross wind. Made that, too. Elevated green for my 3rd that I missed. chipped on and 3 putted. That was my whole day. Rumor has it this is the hardest hole in Virginia. # 7 Bristow Manor.

Florida is on stay at home until at least 4/30, next Thursday. Most courses in Florida are still open as they are "essential". Whatever that means in this case. As a result of the stay at home I've not played in about 4 weeks. Been hitting 1/2 shots, chipping and putting on our back porch. We have no backyard as the porch hangs over a lake. Our course has been closed. The course will reopen soon and I'll get back to walking 18 holes 3x a week. I just treated myself to a new Stewart X9 remote/follow cart. Found out most remote carts are totally sold out. Mine is on preorder til the beginning to middle of May. With lots of courses opening with mandatory walking lots of private courses are ordering 20-30 Stewart X9 carts as rental units. Golfers are ordering carts and remote carts at a historical pace, thus lots are sold out.

Private courses have been open..... I know a guy who's been playin the whole time at Alta Vista in Yorba Linda..... Called Black Gold yesterday and they might open Monday. Better cause tired of running from the cops at Fullerton GC actually they were very nice and couldn't give a crap
