USKIDS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

I was curious if anyone has heard any updates in regards to if this is still happening? Also interested in hearing people thoughts around attending and if your decision to attend has changed.

I called them today they told me as of know it's still happening but they are looking at options and of course seeing how things progress. They did tell me they might add a course to keep the crown down, didn't say which or what age group as nothing has been decided. Also said parings could be 2 vs 3. I would add that the parade of nations or the pool party won't happen (that's my opinion). They have paused sending new invites, I'd assume they have to start sending those out soon if they plan to have it unless they just want smaller numbers so its easier to control the volume.

But this could all change in a week.

Unless something magical happens and the world gets back to normal soon, we’re not gonna take any chances. It sucks because we really wanted to go check it out this year (my kid will be playing in the 7’s group).

Thanks for the feedback I was curious to hear what others were thinking. My daughter went last year and we had a great family trip. My daughter is registered to play this year but at this point we are almost 100 percent to cancel.

Did you happen to ask about regionals & states? Probably same answer, but curious if they have a target date to resume play...even if subject to change (obviously).

Arizona state championship is still on a few weeks from now.

A lot of those the tournament director has control of states are basically run by a local director if they meet uskg guidelines (have to have normal cups not upside down) then if the local government says it okay they will probably play. I did see some state events were postponed till the fall in some areas. Thats just my thought. Our locals played in March but not April because of cup issues. Our local will start up again in May assuming it doesn't get worse per our director (and Uncle Sam doesn't close golf). Regionals like RWB basically same answer for worlds based on what they told me as she is signed up for both. I'd bet all the fun things get caned. No family nights things to that nature but the event still goes on as planned.

I don't blame you. If I could drive it I would do it. If I had to fly there would be no way. I had a conference/show in Nashville this summer that was canceled. I was really hesitant about flying and glad it was canceled.

We are signed up to play, we will be attending. My wife had the virus and we the rest of us never displayed symptoms! Hoping new normal begins soon for most people and I would imagine international participation will be significantly down, not parade, and no pool party as mentioned before.

Just curious. How do you keep kids' golf game in shape, esp. those who cannot go to the golf courses.

My wife won’t let my kid out of the house even though courses are starting to open where I live. Here is my best attempt to keep him sharp.

Putting - 18ft BirdieBall putting mat so he can putt up to 15ft.

Chipping - Various nets in the backyard, real grass chipping up to 17 yards carry.

Pitching/Full swings - Flightscope Tour Xi with projector and screen in the garage.

Fitness - 3x a week from Par4Success

Indoor putting.

Chipping in the backyard over the pool to a chipping net.

Full swings into a net.

Might take a minute once courses open up to figure out distances and direction but I'm not worried about it.

Since we cant practice on a course yet I have he doing a ton of fitness stuff - it also takes away a lot of her pent up energy at night - we do putt in the garage and i have her do a lot of slow motion practice swings and have her explain her swing to me - lots of mental reps for now.

Scientists from DHS said the best defense is sunlight and humidity. It is great to have them outdoors.

We live in a desert. 95 today with 22% humidity.

Yeah, but plenty of Sunlight which kills the virus.

I heard from the tour director that the AZ state will likely get pushed to the Fall.

Just to clarify, sunlight and humidity help to kill the virus on surfaces, not once it is in the body.

Not gunna lie, this break from competitive golf has been nice. Getting lots of work done during the day, lots of stuff around the house is getting done and I'm sleeping better. Now I just need to figure out the haircut situation before the circus comes looking for me.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes the kids go “outside” into the backyard to play, just not outside of our property.

My wife and I tried to give the kids haircuts after watching videos on YouTube. Still turned out like sh!t ?

Two things:

I never realized how much I look forward to tournament golf. Realized how I said I? LOL You would look great with a bowl cut.

So True. On all fronts. No soccer, dance, after work obligations, blah blah. The simple life is nice! Wake up when you wake up, teach some homeschool, yard work if I feel like it, quality time with family, several walks/bike rides...all good.

Just looking at current signups and I count 45 boys 12 for this year. Last year they had 160+. Is that normal for this time of year or will a bunch of kids sign up by the deadline?

Quick count of this year's sign ups show 657 total kids. I could be wrong but it's close.

Just don't do the Brooks Koepka bad haircut and stache deal. My god he looks like Freddy Mercury with that stached.

It's lower than normal by far. Take girls 7 there are 14 girls yes I know that would normally be a smaller field but there are normally regionals bigger than that. At the same time they have paused sending out new invites since around March 6th. If it happens it will defiantly be a lot smaller than a typical worlds setup.

We were due to come over from New Zealand for my boy to play in the Boys 8 division. However given we currently have a travel ban and are into our 5th week of full lockdown, I don't see it being practical for us to travel especially if we have to quarantine or isolate for 14 days or more when we get home. It looks like we will have to work on qualifying for next year!

This right here is why I think the international part of worlds will be very low. Most counties have travel bans US included and if you come from X country or even state you have to self quarantine for another 14 days. For example If you fly in from Atlanta to Texas you are required to self quarantine Atlanta is a huge hub for airlines. Probably will be the lowest number of kids to play in worlds if it happens.
