Pro Golf is Back!

They're playing a 54 hole tournament starting today and going through to Thursday in Dallas. Pros and amateurs playing to support the out-of-work caddies. No media (sort of), spectators, or caddies. Golfers either carry or use a push cart. All entering the gates get their temperature taken and strict social distancing is required. The clubhouse is also closed. I hope this works well so maybe the golf shutdown (at least in my state and several others) can be reviewed.

Not to be technical, but pro golf has never gone away. The outlaw tour in Arizona hasn't stopped during the pandemic.

This event has walking scorers, who I believe are the caddies from Maridoe.

I really wish all pro tours would just set up cameras at tee, green, and approach shot locations. It's such a waste that these guys who people will clearly watch don't get at least views on YouTube. We spend so much time watching guys play who can't even come close to competing on tours.

The wind was pretty firm here yesterday and just all over the place today. The scores definitely reflect it!

In addition to a walking scorer why not have a walking guy with instagram live going on his phone and a backup battery. A handful of those and you'll have the footage to make highlights after. Plenty of youtube golf rounds are watched without being able to see where the ball lands exactly. You figure out how good the previous shot was by looking at where the next shot is taken from.

Per rule the ball must come to rest in the hole (or be stuck hanging by flag) to be considered holed out. Going in and bouncing out is not holed. One issue that could come up is the USGA has stated that during this crisis on courses using raised cups the ball is considered holed when it hits the cup. I don't know if anyone can say with certainty from the tee box on a par three that a ball hit the cup and bounced away. However if betting then lots of arguments could occur if a putt just hit the very edge of the cup. Would it have dropped under normal circumstances? Doubtful. Gray area?

If you look on twitter the ball (which was brand new) has a mark on it that showed it must have hit the saucer inside the cup.

In regards to raised cups, no hole in ones would count by hitting the cup. At least I wouldn't count it as one of mine.

i would say that in regular circumstances, JS would have dunked it in the hole without anything interfering with it or in it.

I suppose that's why there's a hole and you putt everything out in tournaments.

How many times under "normal circumstances" has a ball flown in the hole and bounced out? Too many times to consider. Nobody can say for certain that YJS would have had an ace otherwise if the hole was played as normal. Pure conjecture. It's not like a 3 foot putt without a flag in the hole ever cost someone a tour card. Wait? What? It did.
