I’m hoping Ping bring out a combo set

I’ve been a Ping guy for almost 30 years. I played i15 irons and LOVED the progressive setup. But the sets Ping has now make it tough to blend and keep a seamless look to the set. In fact that is the main reason I just bought a set of PXG 0211 irons. I think the concept of larger more forgiving long irons with offset and less offset more compact short irons is the perfect set. I don’t understand why Ping went away from that. The PXGs will be my first non Ping iron since the Eye 2...

Don’t be too hung up on loft gapping though. Yardage gaps is what matters, not the loft. Find someplace you can test the set you desire...you will likely find it is not as off as the lofts would suggest.

Playing g410 woods and g700 irons Glide 3 wedges

l like the 6 in the g700 but the 7/8/9 are lacking feel and difficult to chip with as they ping off the face uncontrollable being hollow. I was thinking of i210 or wait for something new later in the year from Ping hoping a combo set ??‍♂️??‍♂️Would exist just saying

I am going to go out on a limb and say, if Ping were to release a set of irons that had the blueprint profile through the entire set, with the thin top line an minimal offset, but had a progression to a small players cavity that started after the 7 or 8 iron, they would have some interested folks (at least here on WRX!)

I would keep an eye on spin gapping as well.

#1 Don't sleep on the G410. Players down to the scratch level have been sneaking into G series irons for at least a decade now. The G410's are the natural progression from your G700's. The progression through the set will work better than jumping a series.

#2 If you have 3 Glide wedges it's safe to assume one is a gap wedge. Make that your favorite chipping club. I know this is controversial but you really don't need to be using a 7-8-9 for chipping. Use your gap wedge.

#3 You are almost certainly overthinking this. It's what we forum nerds do. I do it all the time too. Ping is making golf clubs for people like you and I. Non-pro's. They've studied thousands of us. We all think we are unique and need something special... we probably don't

#4 Go to Morton golf and order yourself one G410 PW. For $115 it's a cheap experiment. If you love it, go back and order 2 more (8 & 9 irons) and voila - combo set. The gapping won't be far off on this end of the bag either. https://www.mortongolfsales.com/PING-G410-Irons-p/ping-g410-ind-ir-st.htm

With what Ping has to offer you could for sure order an awesome mixed set.

Crossover for the 3/4/5 irons (I feel like these are really slept on, the best driving iron I've hit)

i500 for 6/7/8

i210 or blueprints for 9/w/u

or glides for the P/G/S/L

The i210s literally do this off the rack. Long irons go high, short irons flight lower, they’re all forgiving.

I liked the feel of the i200 more than the i210. Not a huge margin but it was more of a combo of smoothness and power, while the i210 is a little squishier to me. In many other ways, they are basically the same club. The i200 is even cheaper. And I agree on the G410 being one to look at. A lot of very good players like its performance and forgiveness. For me that would be the combo — 410 long irons paired with i200/i210.

Personally I mixed my ping i210s with i500, i210s are power spec (6-uw) and the i500 are regular spec (4 and 5 iron). Gapping works out really well for me and the 4 and 5 iron have less offset than the 4 and 5 iron in the i210s.

Would the G700 + i500 + Blueprint not do this well enough? Sure they have drastic differences in offset but nothing knocking a degree or two off of the G700 couldn't minimize. Blueprint can also be ordered in PowerSpec and combo'd with the retro spec i500 you would have a similar offset profile and lofts within 0.5* of each other. Nothing even an elite amateur would likely gripe about. 0.5* all else equal would be about 1-2 yards of carry, which is so small it couldn't be chalked up to slight variation in impact location.

I played Ping irons since the G25 up through and including i210 and G700 and bought a set of PXG 0211’s this season.

As far as a Ping mixed set the 0211’s would be as close to it as I would hope without actually being released by Ping.

PXG has former Ping staffers leading their design and you can see the Ping influence in PXG iron heads.

The 0211 are like a blend of the iE1 and G25’s. They take the best of both heads and blend them in one set.

May not be for everyone but they have been an excellent set for me and my swing.
