Had a set of PTx Pros briefly and sold them due to the shaft not being a match. I cannot imagine a better performing club head for my swing with the v-sole performance. I've had Mizuno and even let a couple of Mizuno fanboy partners try the PTx Pros and they were thoroughly impressed. They couldn't believe they were not a solid fully forged club head. I am going to order a combo set eventually but may wait until some of them hit the use market as well.

Ptx pro irons are hollow heads?

4-7 are hollow head design with tungsten. 8-W are hollow heads with titanium filler, so its more solid than the longer irons.

I will be interested to hear feedback when some of you get your combo sets. I will be curious to see if anyone finds gapping issues between the hollow bodied 7 iron and the muscleback 8 iron.

I played 18 today and discovered a swing setup flaw causing serious ball striking issue. Once correcting that I hit my Icons extremely solid resulting in my best round of the year. Most shots are straight with maybe a slight draw. The turf interaction is tremendous! I'm able to draw the ball fairly easily, maybe 10-15 yards when needed. I've hit a few punch/stinger type shots with a draw. I have yet had to hit a deliberate fade so that's the next challenge. Ball flight with the Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff shafts are exactly what I've come to expect based on my '99 Ben Hogan Apex blades, maybe a little bit lower due to the muscle back design. So far these have been excellent.

Been looking into purchasing a set of icons, but have doubt whether I can play them. Ive played blades before (Hogan Apex and titleist 690.MB) and combo from TM (RAC TP's). But that is years ago. The past 4-5 years I have played Wishon 575CB's with great success.. meaning i dont play much perhaps a round every 2 weeks and have played to hcp (4) half the rounds.

I do like the look of a classic iron and don't care much for chunky irons (fat topline, wide bottom etc). Anyone have side by side pictures of icon and ptx pro? a bonus if you have the 575cb, ptx pro and icon :)

I finally got mine and put some time in with them. I opted for the icons in the traditional chrome with s300 dynamic golds in standard lofts and lies

    What I like:

    • They are gorgeous. Just stunning.
    • Feel great
    • minimal offset
    • look good at address
    • spin and launch numbers are good

    What I don’t like

    • The grips are not my favorite
    • so far the gapping is not working great for me but that might just be something I need to adjust
    • i can’t pin point it but there is something stopping me from falling in love with them

The conclusion is that because I haven’t fallen in love with them I am probably going to list them for sale and go back to my previous set. Still debating.

I am also having a little issue with the loft gapping of the 4 and 5 irons. The rest of the irons are lofts I'm used to. The 4 iron is longer than my old 4 iron but a wee bit shorter than my old 3 iron. The 5 iron is just longer than my old 5 iron but shorter than my old 4 iron. I believe it's going to take a little time to get fully used to the gaping. I believe I will. If not I always add a '99 2 iron and adjust the lofts of the 4 and 5 to 24* and 27* easily and drop my 54* SW.

Awesome feedback, just passed week 3 for me so hoping they ship soon. Depending on how much you like them I’d consider changing the grips first as it can have a significant impact on the like of a club. I’ve been in the same boat with other sets and putting on a grip I like moved them up for sure.

I love Lamkin grips but the Z5 is not a fav. They should have kept the UTx and added more colors - that’s a fantastic grip!

Im already planning on ordering new grips for mine because I know I do not like the Z5. Iomic Sticky 2.3 or tour velvet aligns most likely.

I have been curious about the 4 degree gapping at the long end of Hogan Icon and PTxPro iron sets. In most traditional sets, loft gaps tend to shrink to 3 degrees once lofts are below 30. Has anyone else noticed large distance gaps in the 4,5,6 iron range?

I've only been to the range once this year and that was before my last round last week. I'll go to the range this week and work on the 4-6 and see how they perform. The range at my home course opened about a week ago.

My Icons came today. These clubs are outstanding. The look, the feel, everything. The size, offset (what little there is) and top line looks perfect to my eye. I went from Mizuno MP18 SC's with KBS Tour 120's to the Icons with KBS Tour V's 110. These irons feel better than my Mizuno's and the trajectory is more boring but the distance is still there. It's a really nice ball flight.

I'll get them on the course tomorrow to put them through their paces with good balls and real world conditions as opposed to the driving range. The grips were changed immediately. Also, I added an 18° utility iron and I wasn't really impressed with that. It's a completely different look than the Icons. It's bigger, more offset and has a thicker top line. I'll give it a chance but I'm not sure how useful it'll be in my bag. We'll see. FYI, I'm bouncing between scratch and 1 for what that's worth. These irons are the real deal.

I absolutely love the turf interaction of these irons. As long as my hands don't flip through impact the divots are shallow or none. I am working on my wrist action (current flaw). I fixed a posture flaw last week so once I get the wrist issue corrected and turn more I wouldn't doubt I'll see a small distance jump. So far I think these Icons are every bit as good as the '99 Apex blades and probably a bit better.

I played this morning and it only confirmed what I already knew: these irons are exquisite. The turf interaction was really good. I'm not a digger so this sole is made for me. Hitting TaylorMade TP5's and ProV1's, these clubs felt like I was hitting marshmallows. I mishit a few on the toe and the result was as expected, it fell a few yards short. Still on line though. It definitely wasn't a harsh feeling like you'd expect. I just knew I missed it. These were definitely the best looking irons on the course. I'm not regretting this purchase.

I agree with these sentiments. I wish there were more shaft choices but at these prices reshafting with a preferred shaft is still less than comparable irons. The feel and turf interaction is excellent. Reshafted, added shaft weights and regripped my Icon irons and they measure just over D2, 9 iron and PW close to D3. Now I’m fine tuning the lie angle to be adjusted perfectly. These irons are definitely legitimate.

Can anyone compare the UiHi to the previous ft worth hi? Wondering if it is much chunkier than the ft worth hi.

For those mentioning the gapping issues with the 4 and 5 it is a little strange how they make the 4 iron so much longer than standard and they make the 5 slightly longer than standard. They told me before that this is for swing weight purposes. They also measure club length to the the top of the two rings on the end of the grip which makes them slightly longer feeling imo as that is not the end of the grip but slightly before.

For those of you who got the combo set, I would be interested in hearing if you had any gaping issues between the hollow body PTX Pro 7 iron and the Icon 8 iron.

I just got them yesterday and took them to the range today. Really impressed so far and the UIHI is stupid easy to hit. I also have the FT Worth utility 18* and i do like it i find the UIHI much easier to hit.

Not sure yet as i have not gotten them on the course but at the range i did not see a bit gap. The ICON's do feel better on perfect contact but that is why i got the combo set as i am not as consistent with the longer irons. Hopefully they will start releasing single irons so you can work you way up with the ICON's if you want a 6 or 7 iron.
