Titleist 962b vs 990b

Hi everyone, I need a little help I’m trying to decide out of these two titleist models which I should go for either the titleist 962b or the 990b. What’s your thoughts and is there any major difference between the two In the way they play and flights thanks.

@mattboy1 Great question! I've hit them both and they were both very solid irons. Most of us were partial to the 962 version of the "B" model DCI's. There was just something special about them, as John Wunder wrote up in this very recent article: My favorite irons of all time: Titleist 962BNeither "B" blade was "easy" to hit, but they both had a tinge more forgiveness than a pure blade. The 962's just had that little bit extra that made them great. For most people, it was in the turf interaction and how the sole was designed with the very modified heel area and something of a "triple grind" that allowed the club to move really well through the turf. Luckily, both of these sets of irons can be had relatively inexpensively now, so grab one (or both) of them and get to testing them out! Be safe and healthy - DD

Thanks mate, the reason I asked is I usually play blades and I’m having a set of 690mb fully restored, I’m from the uk and I found a company that restores them to the exact original condition, so I thought I would get a cheap back up set. Your wright, I must say the 962b do look more pleasing on the eye and in dollars he only wants $130 or about £100 pounds, and they are very clean. So can’t go wrong really thanks Matt.

Depends what you're looking for. The 962 is on the list of historically ugly irons, along with every Ping from the 80s and 90s, so if aesthetics are a factor...

I much prefer the 990B aesthetically over the 962B

I played both at one time or another and liked both sets, but the 962b I liked better. Very compact, very little off-set and sweet when hit out of the middle. I tried te 990bs when they came back and went back to the 962s. 990s were good clubs, perhaps a bit more forgiving, but just not appealing enough to replace the 962.

I have always played titleist mb’s or mizuno mp’s ie 690 or the 33’s , so compared to those they both look a little ugly. The reason I need a set is because my 690mb have been sent away to be restored. I got a set of Srixon z965 delivered today I was going to use, which were a steal only $360 dollars or in uk money £300. The guy I brought them off had them listed as new other. But when they turned up they are still in wrappers, so I have decided to hang on to them and just find a half decent set to use until my 690mb come back. So I thought I would either get a cheap set of 962b or 990b. As I said compared to muscleback irons they are both a little ugly, so think it will come down to which ever I can get the best deal on.
