Byron Morgan Putters Review | Show me your Byron!

Almost a year ago now I started becoming very intrigued by Byron's putters. I've always loved the smaller look and bumpers on the Anser style putter much more than the Anser/Np2 so I constantly found myself clicking on DH89 ads whenever I saw them pop up on the BST. I'm also a massive Tiger fan (as most of us are) and love the simple look of a sight dot rather than the traditional flange line. To be honest, I putt best with armlock but as golfers we are often focused more on form than function.

Fast forward to now and I had the pleasure of designing a DH89 with Byron. This was my first custom putter and I was blown away by the service and personal touch that is involved in this process. I realize many of you will have had great experiences with other putter craftsmen so I know this isn't entirely unique to Byron, but I can say it is WELL worth the experience rather than buying off the shelf. Byron and I share of love of surf and water sports so it was fantastic connecting with him and talking about our time on the water. I love that he is the kind of guy you can hop on the phone with and get fantastic advice about your putter and also have a great conversation with. Other custom order experiences I've had (different shops, irons etc) have been very impersonal and I really like that he walked me through the process. I thought I knew what I wanted, but given I live in Canada and play in wet conditions most of the time we moved away from the carbon idea I had originally and did a bead blasted stainless.

Because I went for this finish, we talked about it and I decided to go for a deeper milling to give impact a nice medium note. The feeling is absolutely superb but I'll get more into that in a bit. The point is that I love that he guided me in the right direction. I wanted a nice clean look and the putter came out beautifully.

Looks - 10/10

I absolutely love how the putter came out. The finishes and look at address are absolutely perfect. The midsize Pure grips he is using feel awesome. They're a bit tacky in a nice way and just a perfect size. The stampings are great and I think it came out very clean. Sound - 9/10

I love how this thing sounds. I'm giving it a 9 because for stainless I think it is perfect though if I played in dry conditions I know carbon would feel that touch sweeter. For the low maintenance it was totally worth going for the finish I did. Attached a vid if you want to get an idea of the sound.Finish - 10/10

Not much to say here. The craftsmanship and effort put in are fantastic.Service - 10/10

He will walk you through the process and is clearly incredibly passionate about his craft. I can only hope that the industry really continues down the custom fitting/bespoke path. I realize big box is important to keep money in our sport but people like Byron are what drive it. Overall - 10!

Stoked. If you have any questions about the process feel free to leave me a comment and PLEASE leave some photos of your Byron Morgans in here. I'd love to see/hear about them. Streamable - free video publishing

Make good products and happy customers and you won't need to worry about updating your website all the time.

What I love about the boutique putter industry is the one on one questions/answers you get working with that individual. Your concerns are answered immediately and directly rather than searching a website hoping to find an answer and the struggles of getting someone "on chat" educated enough at that company to answer your questions accurately.

Byron Morgan makes terrific putters and always wants his customers to be happy with their putters. Byron is even a better person. He used to have a very active board on PutterTalk and most of his creations were posted on that site. There were a lot of outstanding putters there.

That's a beauty of a putter, clean and simple. It's a true gamer.

I also love the DH89, I miss mine but could do a custom in the future

Just means SS is a deal or carbon is a ripoff lol. I also think Artisan some carbon putters are more expensive than SS but that's probably due to finish, but still.

I've had a few pretty great life events lately and want to commemorate them with a custom stick. It will be a big purchase for me, so I want to gather as much info as I can.

Can someone provide a quick rundown on the maintenance requirements of a few of Byron's finishes?

Would it be possible to arrange them in terms of most to least maintenance? And what does that maintenance look like? Is it drying post round and wiping down with a rag like the Cameron putter cloth, or is it more?

I did poke around a bit on this site trying to find a place where all this info was gathered in one place, so please let me know if it's out there and I missed it. Thanks.

This is my Epic Day. I have also included the face picture Byron sent me just before he shipped it (pre-patina).

Send byron an email - he can give you a good run down of how maintenance will go. For me, he definitely recommended going stainless given the wet conditions I play in - similar to PNW for me most of the year. I never leave a wet putter in its cover but I don’t need to oil it constantly etc like a carbon.

Absolutely beautiful. What’s the toe hang like with that neck?

The Toe hang is close to 5 O'Clock.

The problem is that Byron has retired the Epic Day. I am fortunate I got one of the last ones he had.

@RobotDoctor well, that’s a bummer. Such an awesome look! He was one of the only ones still making that style putter that is not too large.
