Hypothetical -- Making do for this summer's teaching clinics.

Recommended Posts

This is geared towards those of you who may be interested or have taken part in previous year's weekend clinic's that some of the teachers who frequent this or have their own sites host around the country.

With all the stuff going on with the world, but thankfully the courses and ranges slowly opening around the Country I'm curious --- it could be problematic for this summer to get driving ranges and/or courses to open their doors to a group of say 10 or so golfers to use their ranges for a weekend due to the new restrictions in place and things like that. So the question - would you still be willing to take part if the event is held at say a make shift location- maybe a large field or farm area, cut down of course (probably not bent grass, sorry) with typical range balls?

Just wondering if that's an option you may consider to still gain the knowledge you'd receive from taking part in this kind of event. For me the key is the actual learning experience and sharing of knowledge with both the instructor and fellow campers, but again due to the crazy world it's understandable some alternations and flexibility to make this happen might be required for 2020.

Thanks for input or sharing your thoughts.

FWIW, as a past attendee of Monte's clinics, I would have no issue attending another one with very little change. Obviously at Monte's clinic we were not practicing strict social distancing of 2M spacing at all times, but I didn't feel we were always in tight spacing. People tended to respect personal space so it was already spread out. Having 10 people crowded around one person taking a shot while Monte does a lesson for all to see is a little challenging to have that 2M space, but it's pretty doable.

I do not think a make shift location is needed. Just a large range with plenty of space off to the side. We had that at one clinic so I imagine other locations can be found.

With some common sense and basic precautions, nothing crazy like plexiglass everywhere, i'm good with it.

I can't speak at all to a particular locality for health requirements, combined with the course/range policy. I am sure it will be a challenge more often than not. I suppose a real indicator will be when fans are allowed at sporting events. If 100s/1000s can go watch an event, then why not 10-16 at a clinic?

Having the clinic at some random field sounds like a tough sell. And finding the location sounds like a major effort given the cost, liability, and viability. But I am just speaking from a NorCal perspective where I don't see it as a possibility. An empty field in Texas? I guess they have some of those! ;)

The clinic I went to in Bay Area was at a very wide range, plenty of room to hold a clinic and not even be close to golfers who need their pre-round warm up. I am sure the course would love the revenue if the local officials allow it.

Thanks for input, either I'm not being clear here or you are mis-understanding. Let me re-phrase... Again this is all hypothetical, nothing has been determined yah or nay anywhere.

Let's say that ranges and courses in an area of the US that in the past welcomed a group like ours but they can't allow our group to return this year for whatever reason. Not for us to judge one way or another. Maybe they just don't want to inconvenience their regulars after missing these past few months of being closed. Whatever the reason we ain't allowed back.

Let's then say we can get access to a site via the proper channels - not just showing up in an open field unannounced and throwing down some balls - but having permission by the proper party to hold such outing at a place not normally a range but nonetheless can accommodate such a group -- and we can bring in our own balls. All parties understanding that we all need to be flexible to some degree to allow this to take place.

I know myself, no biggie, I'm there for the knowledge and camaraderie. Others may be a bit more particular or picky as to facilities and so on.

Hope that makes sense and folks might provide input. Thank you.
