Ping Anser with missing logos

Hello Everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster. I have a Ping Anser "Dalehead" putter without the Ping or Anser stamped on the back of the weight pads. I looked very closely to see if they are worn due to use, but I can't detect any remnants of letters. Would someone have ground down the back of the putter, would the logos have worn off from use, or did they make a version with no manufacturer/model name stamped into the putter. I attempted to post a pic and received the status 403 response. I'm probably not permitted to post pics at this time since I'm a 'new' member.

You would have to take measurement, but the appearance to me is that someone ground the toe and heel off.

I would agree, it very much looks like that 1/8" or so was removed from the back of the putter.

Also looks like silly person added a second alignment mark in the "middle" of the topline, in addition to the mark near the sweet spot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the 1967 version came with an alignment mark. Someone may added both lines at some point. So any theories on why someone would grind off the back of this putter?

Looks ground off to me. Too flat.

I have a 1967 Karsten Co. and the sole measures just shy of 1 1/8" from front to back. So, it would appear someone ground off approx 1/8".

Maybe they thought it was too "fat", or too heavy.

Karsten also added sight lines if requested, but those look homemade. Back then, many instructors/pros said you should mark the sweetspot. On your putter, the one closer to the heel would be the one.

BTW, What you have there is a 70's Anser.

Rufus, I appreciate the correct information on the year. I thought the 85029 zip code meant '67, but I probably got that from an incorrect website.

I don't have a theory but there are a few of these floating around. The A-Blade is pretty light so an Anser with the back ground off was tried. If you see one of these with the edges more finished it may be my handiwork from 1976. I machined the back off as a favor.
