Titleist 690mb restoration

Hi guys just got these babies back today, I had fully restored, just thought I would share a few pictures, see what you guys out there think.

Wow. Those are gorgeous! Who did the work? What is the build going to look like?

Hi mate I’m from the uk, and I used to take my clubs to Jim at the iron factory, who is good, but it was becoming to expensive to post to USA and then back to UK so I called around a few companies in the U.K. and found one that specialised in chroming vintage car parts who said they could do it. So first I sent them a old mp68 head to see how it went, and that come back sweet. So then I sent the 690mb and got them back today. And in dollars it was about $260 for the set of nine irons which is a result. And I only paid $80 dollars for the heads. So in all $340 I have got a set of tour issue s400 shafts and some golf pride full cord grips.

Thanks mate. They did a great job. I might look for some more old heads and then get them restored and flip them. Might be a nice little side line.

Beautiful! I had a set of 690.mbs (2-p) done by the iron factory years ago that I also shafted with with TIs400s and BCT chords!! Awesome irons! Hope you enjoy them!!

They look great! Is there any special work done on the grooves? Looks almost like they have a raw finish, or even a bit of grit?

Yes, they have come out really nice. Took a long time to find a place. Scott they are called Marque Restore chrome plating Ltd there no is 02476622225, if you call or email them you need to speak to Julia. If you mention my name matthew and the 690mb you did she will help. It’s about Three weeks turn around. One thing I will say is they don’t do groves, but mine were really good so it was no problem, but if yours are bad get them done first before sending them away, I can help you here if they need the groves done, there is a place called CT golf in orpington Kent he’s a professional at this been doing it for over 30 years. So get that done first otherwise once they are stripped then nickelled and chromed you can’t do the groves because that means going threw all the new chrome and nickel, and that will make them rust. Besides it’s only £3 pound a head hope this helps Scott.

I had Jim at The Iron Factory refinish mine in satin years ago (per my request). Unfortunately, the head weight and sole grind changed as a result. I ended up selling them a few years later. Take home message: keep them in chrome to maintain the head characteristics.

Recently, Jim refinished my P760 9-iron head that had been damaged—it came out way better than I could have imagined. He does excellent work.

Hi mate I had a couple sets done by Jim, he is very good. But I’m from uk and it was costing me in dollars $170 just to ship there and back. You were saying about the satin finish, but did it not get nickel plated first, then satin chromed on top. I must admit I was thinking of getting a set of 690mb done. The thing is titleist 660 are satin finished. Very strange.

was it Ashford Chroming?

No, not Ashford chroming. Funny you should say that because I did speak to them about a year ago because I used to live in Longfield Kent, but there’s is only decorative chroming, and they don’t do the striking face either.
