Help! Head/Upper body lunge, Can’t find help

This game is frustrating!!! Can’t get rid of my ugly head/upper body movement on downswing, it leads to a huge flip at impact. I can’t even take a practice swing without feeling a huge flip at the bottom, and I don’t know why.

Ive tried many things to fix this, but no matter what, my shoulders always end up open at impact, and my head moves toward the target on every swing. I just want to take ONE swing that looks normal on video, but I can’t, every swing has a huge flip of the hands, with my head ahead of the ball!!

Getting to to the point where I feel like just saying the hell with it, and just play golf with this bad swing, because I’m tired of doing the same thing over and over again when trying to fix it. I play to a 0 handicap, but if I didn’t practice my short game constantly, then I’d be about a 5 or 6 probably. I can’t hit long irons, because I hit weak thin shots with them consistently, so I use hybrids. Drives are high and spinny.

What is it that I’m missing?? I’ve talked to several instructors, but no tip has helped. I just want to make consistent contact with my irons, I work hard on my game, but I’m stuck in neutral with my ball striking. Any help would be appreciated as I am completely lost.

Not to the extent you think.

 

You have too much pressure on right side at address, through downswing and hips are getting too open too early and you run out of range of motion....hips stop and arms take over to catch up. Watch this video form Rose and See the move he demonstrates he has problems with and you’re that to a huge extreme.

Ok I hear you, definitely something seriously wrong with my position there, but when I try to get a bump with my hips, I end up bumping my upper body with it. I tried that for a week and it didn’t solve the flip. Are you saying that I should move my pelvis more to the front at address? How do I get the pelvis do the proper position on downswing? Thanks for helping, hoping to finally get my swing figured out.

everything shifted forward at address and feel like pressure is 55-45 favoring left side.

If you spin your pelvis open that much, that early, it will be hard to get left pressure.

You may have to stop shifting so much pressure right in the backswing, but you for sure need to keep your hips and shoulders closed longer in transition.

Ok thanks, I like the sound of that, and haven’t tried that tactic yet so will give it a shot. One other thing If you have time , what does my footwork tell you? There seems like there’s a lot of weird movement going on with both feet on downswing, I don’t see any pros that have footwork like that, is that anything to focus on?

Don’t fall into the trap that prevents all golfers from improving. Hit a large bucket, have trouble and give up. If you’re happy with the way you play....great, if you’re not, this is, in fact the problem. How you approach It is a matter of debate, my way may not work....but if you want to improve, there is no debate on the core issue.

Look at Jimmy Ballards videos about loading the right side and having the swing built around the right side and right hand. It is not very intuitive and feels different from a left side dominated swing.

"Shirtsleeve" swing technique:

1. Setup: Elbows bent forearms pressed together against shaft slightly forward of center with "Hogan" "active/flexed" leg tension left foot turned out slightly and the right leg slightly farther to the right - weight mostly on balls of feet butt of left hands sits on the top of the grip with very light grip.

2. Swing - W/o disturbing weight distribution of legs and feet lower hands while doing a forward press "swing trigger" then the left upper arm takes over on the backswing, it needs to go out in front of the body then back in front of the chest as the hands trace down initially then up to over the right shoulder "Torres". The goal is to not disturb the pressure of the feet during the initial takeaway.

 

Notes:

1. Only swing thought after swing trigger - extend left arm at shirt sleeve when reaching left hand over right shoulder "Shirtsleeve technique".

2. The upper left arm move "Shirtsleeve technique" can be practiced independently without a club, sitting down for instance

3. The correct feet tension can be felt by doing very short hops on the balls of the feet then holding the same feeling of pressure on the front of the feet and then taking three practice swings with the grip very loose in order to not disturb the same pressure on the feet and on the 3rd swing actively do the "Shirtsleeve" move. From there the swing should be done within a matter of seconds to not lose the feel of the legs resisting, this way this is not a learned technique as much as it is a setup technique.

This is a nut I'm trying to crack and slowly progressing. (Thanks @wagolfer7 )
What I've been doing to work feeling is I swing on this with my feet to feel better Center of pressure http://pure2improve.com/index.php/products/golf/stability-rod.html
Also swing on some balance pads in the garden with a club, you'll certainly realise you aren't centred on them.
