Remove epoxy on hosel?

What is the best way to remove epoxy outside of the hosel?

I use a 11/32 drill bit and ream the hosel lightly. Don't worry, you won't remove any metal unless you really try hard. If you want to really get close to the hosel size a 9mm bit is .3543.

I use a utility knife to scrape off dried excess epoxy on the outside of the hosel. Then I finish up with a light Acetone wipe.

If you heat up the hosel with a heat gun you may end up melting the ferrule or breaking down the epoxy holding the head in place. The utility knife suggestion is how I do it too, using the very tip to scrape off the tiny amount of excess epoxy (it comes off in light scrapings). Just take your time and be careful not to scratch the ferrule.

If you notice it before the epoxy has completely cured (for 24hr epoxy that is somewhere between 6-18 hrs) you have rub it off with a pice of cloth like denim. If it is fully cured and there is more than tiny amount, you are best to use the edge of a blade to lift it off. It quite often will pop off in one chunk or peel off. For the little bits that remain, use 0000 steel wool to rub off the remainder. 0000 steel wool is one of the most useful items you can have.

I always use painters tape and mask the irons to the top of the hosel and the shaft/ferrule down to the bottom edge of the ferrule. Then I apply the epoxy inside the hosel bore and on the shaft. I mate the iron and shaft, make sure I have full insertion then wipe off excess epoxy. This way I never get epoxy on the irons or shaft. But if my work is sloppy and residual epoxy gets on the face of the iron I just use acetone. If the epoxy gets on the hosel or back of the blade I use a utility knife I have for my golf tool kit.

I check the clubs several times while the epoxy is curing. If I've used a bit too much epoxy it will continue to seep out between the hosel and ferrule. I'll check every 15 minutes or so for the first hour of curing and every time some epoxy appears wipe it off with a clean cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol or mineral spirits.

If I miss some and it cures on the side of the hosel I would chip if off with the non cutting side of a utility knife blade, it should flake right off if the hosel has a polished finish.
