2 Hybrid Help

getair23

Recommended Posts

Looking to take 3 or 4 wood out of the bag and experimenting with a lower lofted hybrid. Any suggestions? I have an Aldila Rogue shaft with a cobra tip that I really like. I am currently unsuccessful tracking down a F7 2-3 or previous Cobra hybrid that this will work in. The Callaway Super Hybrid might do the trick, but a little pricey for a potential short term experiment.

I had the same thought as you as I hit my G410 19* so well I thought a 17* would be the answer to removing the 3-4 wood from my bag. I'm now dealing with a hook monster in the TE 17*. I'm not sure how to fix it without changing my path to the ball as this is the only club I hook.

I swapped out 3w for a 17* super hybrid and I’m not looking back. I always got along well with hybrids, and tuned down to 16* it’s a rocket launcher for me. Much better than the 3w from the rough etc too

Great advise, thank you! I was looking at the Apex yesterday. Might pull the trigger there. The reason I like Cobra hybrids (F7- Bio Cell), TS2, and Super Hybrid are because they are adjustable. Will definitely look at the Srixon as its marked down to $150.

Last season I decided to move the 3 wood out and get a 2 hybrid. I bought a M3 here on BST that came with 2 stiff shafts. They were too soft so I got on the Bay and bought a Matrix X stiff hybrid shaft for cheap. So much easier to hit than a 3 wood and just as long for me since I hit it out of middle more often. My buddy used it the other day and decided not to purchase a 3 wood and get a hybrid instead. He was hitting it high and around 260 yards. He loved it.

2016/2019 Callaway Apex. I would search more a yardage then a specific loft hybrid. I was dead set on getting a 2 hybrid but then hit the 3 hybrid and it was so long that it fit the yardage I needed with more loft. 3 hybrid with ad di 95x 240 carry. perfect between my three wood and 4 iron.

If you have the swing speed the 2 hybrid will be in the 260 range. Apex is a monster. Check out the Apex 19' 20 degree and the SIM 19 degree hybrid on that 240 yardage.

I just added a 17* g410 into my rotation. Obviously lower trajectory but I really like it off the tee and into the wind.

Super Hybrid is a fantastic option, although pricey.

Srixon H85 in a 16 degree could be had at a reasonable price right now.

I'm playing an Adams Super XTD at 17* that is a bomber. They pop up on ebay every now and then. Good way to experiment with the concept before going dropping the dough on the Callaway Super.

Do it on the cheap at first as it isn't for everyone. You can find an older 15 to 17 degree Adams Super Hybrids for good prices and maybe even find a Classic if lucky (super solid feeling, thwack like). Also some TEE are a great option. Longest hybrid I've ever hit was a 19 degree TEE CB4 Tour. Currently have a couple Adams XTD LSP's that go the job nicely.

The heAds on almost all hybrids are too darn big. Using an xr pro hybrid at 18 degrees. Also most go left for me.

Mizuno CLK is the best hybrid i have personally hit. The feel is unreal, and it is easy for me to hit with deadly accuracy.

I would have overlooked their hybrids if i wasn't recently turned on to their woods after a iron fitting.

Give them a try.

I ordered a 2-3 Bio Cell Hybrid today for a reasonable price. I'll give that a try and see if it works or if I look for something newer.

kcsf, what model Tour Edge 17° FW are you using?

And, a couple of things to check on your 17° ...

Is the grip too thin, causing you to roll your hands more than with other clubs? Is the shaft lighter in weight or flex than your other long clubs? Is the shaft too long, causing too upright a lie angle at address, pointing face slightly to left? (to check this, choke down a half inch to see if this straightens out the flight. I did this to straighten out my Exotics XRail 4W.)

Thanks Chip, I'll choke down today to see if it helps. It's the TEE CBx119. Grip is a fatty, shaft the same as my other hybrids. Def a swing flaw that I need to sort out.

The 3-4 is a great club. I’m hopeful the 2-3 is similar. When I asked the local Cobra rep to see if he had any 2 hybrids with the adjustable adapter he found a black 3-4 Bio Cell that he gave to my friend. I gave him a Speeder Pro shaft I had, and now it is his favorite club.

The 818 H2 hybrids have been amazing for me. The 17* is a missile, don't use my 3W anymore off the tee.... The 23* is incredibly versatile, a true rescue club. Thinking of dropping the 3W entirely and adding another at 20*. They can be had fairly cheap used - but if you're looking for a true bargain for your trial the 816 H2 might be the way to go.

A fairway wood is what started this whole idea. I put a TS2 3W in the bag and it was too long. I absolutely love that club just don’t need it to go that far. Figured a long hybrid would be a little more versatile.
