Wedges?

I need to get a new 56° wedge for my son (8yo and about 51 tall) as he's worn out his US Kids TS3 wedge. I was going to order him a new one from Flynn but with shipping to NZ and our terrible exchange rate against the US dollar it will end up costing me around US$140 (NZ$220) which is not far shy of the price of a Vokey or Callaway wedge.

Has anyone moved their kid to Adult wedges early? I imagine they will be much heavier than what he's used to but his coach thinks it will serve him well getting used to a Vokey earlier.

What do you guys think?

Have tried unsuccessfully switching to adult wedges. I had an old Vokey wedge in the closet that I drilled out to make lighter, and even that was too heavy for him. Even tried the Cleveland Jr. wedges but those were too heavy as well. My kid's 11, and still using Flynn Alto S3 wedges and loves them. He's only 53" tall, so on the short side.

Just stick with TS3 wedges. 99% out there aren’t using adult wedges at 8.

I would go with a TS3 again but we can't get single clubs here in New Zealand so id have to order from the US which puts me in the same camp as the Flynn but at double the price (shipping to NZ from US Kids is US$100)

That's good to know! I might go down the testing route as well I think, especially if I can pick up an SM7 or similar cheap and pop a ladies flex graphite shaft in and go from there.

Oh, that’s harsh... well I’ve seen a 6 YO use men’s Cleveland wedges and he played great with them. We were at IMG Jr World and played with that kid for all 3 days.

My daughter moved to adult wedges when she was 10. She is small for her age and never had a problem with them. She has the Cleveland RX-3 ladies wedges. They come with a lightweight graphite shaft which is key. You can get them right now on rock bottom golf for $45 each. Callaway also makes women’s wedges so you could go that route as well. You just hand to get a lightweight shaft in them otherwise the weight will be an issue. You can always paint the club so it doesn’t have a “girl look” to it. I know several parents who have done that for their boys. The ladies wedges are cavity back which helps with forgiveness out of the fairway and she can still play whatever shot she needs to. I’m thinking about moving her away from the cavity back and going to a more traditional wedge now that she is 12. I can get the TM milled wedges with a recoil shaft in them.

You can buy the Ping Prodi G wedges custom fit individually at about $80 per in US. Not sure what you would be looking at for shipping etc.

Just picked off a used Prodi G 56* off eBay at a nice discount. It’s replacing a Ping Pal SW, so I’m interested to see how it stacks up.

Just got new wedges this past week for the boy and everything from 95 yards in has gotten better. TM MG2 54 SB and 58 HB.

After using the Prodi G 56* quite a bit over the past few days, my daughter really appreciates the less-clunky clubhead over her old Pal SW. Too bad Ping didn't make a 60* to complement it, but might end up snagging a 52* for the right price.
