Advice for restoration of vintage leather ping bag

Was wondering if anyone has any tips and product suggestions for bring back this leather bag to its former glory? I included the rain hood that is very clean so unsure if it just sun damage or something I could restore the staff bag to. Thanks for all your help

Greetings, PG5. Keep in mind that my advice is free, very free. Not too much different from shaping and preserving a catcher's mitt, my glove of preference. First, how not to do it, since it is a vintage Ping leather bag, but in the day it was the way: 10w30 or 40. In a short time (with a hard-throwin' pitcher's help) motor oil would turn a mitt so hard and stiff - that would stop a 300 pound rushing lineman not remembering which field he was supposed to be on in his tracks - into something useful and keep it going for a while or until enough of those 300 pound rushing lineman who also played baseball and found their way to the plate in which being out of position meant saying goodnight to the rest of the night and that such was a regular part of one's experience.

Avoid crack, context dependent. Might wish to give it a good cleaning with saddle soap, which will also give the leather a drink or two given the lanolin. Might be all it needs other than some metal cleaning. If need more, leather conditioner or mink oil will do. Apply thin coat, wait a bit, wipe down and re-evaluate. If OK, metal cleaning; boring, but cleaning out the insides of a stainless-steel metal container in conjunction with such may make it a more enjoyable experience, but a good ball game on in the background is a respectable substitute, however.

Are you 100% sure these bags are leather? I've had a couple and I've had the suspicion they are at least part vinyl. That being said when I cleaned mine a few years ago I used some leather cleaning / treating products that I use on my vehicles and it worked out fine.

All of the old staff bags like that were vinyl. Just use mild detergents. Armour all tire shine would probably clean it up nicely.

If vinyl, must agree, otherwise treating it like leather is almost as bad as putting ketchup on a hotdog at the turn. Three things that take care of almost anything in life needin' fixin' or cleanin': duct tape, WD40, and Dawn.

Part of the shoulder straps Are leather and the rest vinyl. Also don’t forget - magic eraser is Great for these. Agree waddle or dish soap and sponge first though. The magic eraser works wonders!
