I am heading to the Greenbrier in early August on a couples trips and am going to have time to sneak in two rounds with the boys. We already have a time booked at the Old White, that one is definitely happening. The question is for our second round do we play the 9 hole Greenbrier course + the 9 hole par 3 OR play the full Meadows course?

The round in question would be played the afternoon that we arrive. The Par 3 looks pretty fun, and there is some history at the Greenbrier course, but now a lot of it is gone, this option will also take less time and give us more chances to walk around the resort. The Meadows on the other hand looks to be the better course.

Since this will be the first trip to the Greenbrier for the whole group I'm curious to get the take from others who have been before.

Also, if you have advice on non-golf activities I'd love to hear them.

Thanks!

Have you been to The Greenbrier before?

Having grown up in WV, it’s a charming place with a good amount of stuff. The casino is pretty badass. They have good pools, lots of your pros have homes there, Jerry West is a frequent visitor, horseback riding, tennis, and some great restaurants (fried green tomato sand which is a must).

I would play the Par 3 on arrival. the Sporting Club is top notch if somebody can get you access.

    Thanks Guys!

Will definitely do the Bunker and the fried green tomato sandwich. Unfortunately no access to the sporting club. Looks like we'll do OW and the Par 3. Planning some pool time and shooting with the SO's as well. Casino time in the evenings. Not sure if we'll find time for anything else, but we'll see!

Be sure and take a Sport Coat. You aren't allowed in the downstairs area after 7 pm without a Sport Coat or Suit coat.

Prime 44 is one of the best steakhouses/restaurants that I've ever eaten at. Great wine list...

    Definitely take the Bunker tour.

I also recommend that bunker tour. The Greenbrier also has world class fly fishing in the stream running through the property. Think about taking a guide as they will access some parts of the stream you would not normally access. Horseback riding is also top notch.

Sport coat recommendation is on point. Definitely a great place.
