New Wilson driver coming soon?

Was browsing a different golf site and saw that Wilson has a new driver on the conforming list:

7.5° loft and W|labs... Suppose this could make its way (finally) into a tour staffer's bag?

Interesting. Not much going on here. I wonder what is under the hood.

From the article, it’s a specific driver for a specific player... whether or not he plays it is yet to be seen... 7.5 degrees but adjustable!

id be happy to see Wilson get into the tour driver game and this is obviously their first attempt.

id assume they didn’t get usga approval without some one committing to playing it. It will be interesting to see who.

Reminds me a bit of the TM M2; not a lot of visible 'tech', single weight screw down and back from the face. I imagine if this club was being made for one specific player, there wouldn't need to be tremendous adjustability. If such a design were to make it to retail, I wonder if they would add more adjustability or keep it simple (D300, FG tour F5)

I'm curious to see what happens since this is a pretty big departure from the Triton and Cortex models.

That would be my guess. He's the best player on their staff, a major champion and because he plays well he's on TV a lot.

It baffles me why Wilson can make fantastic irons and they just can't seem to find their way with drivers. Hope they have made the turn.

I actually think he might be playing it today. I can't figure out what driver it is, and I thought before this he was playing a G410 (or was it a SIM)?

Kind of reminds me a lot of the Adams Speedline Launch Lab drivers that came out. Very simple designs that were flat out bombers. Hope Wilson can mimic that. Not everything that's on the market has to have "visible technology" (ie. gimmicks) in order to perform well.

Looks a bit like the 905S. If it does and comes in 10.5 with a lie of 58 or less....price won’t matter ?

The W Lab thing is something they promote within all their sports lines. Tennis, baseball gloves......They have 3D and all the tech. I couldnt watch but I am intersted in the driver. I agree that a company who produces the best baseball (Lousiville Slugger) and softball bats(DeMarini) should be able to make a driver.

Def looks like he's using it. it's matte black like the g410 but you could clearly the the sole after a tee shot and it matched the USGA picture above.

With the new blades, wedges and utility iron being well received I think tour oriented woods and hybrids would garner some interest and Woodland playing well with them isn't hurting things. He'll be in one of the last groups tomorrow so should get plenty of tv time. The thing I would question from Wilson is if they are committing to creating tour level metalwoods is this being looked at as a long term committment? It's a question of will with them. Their parent company has enough $$ that it's not an issue if the committment is there. And I think they can make quality ones if they put their mind to it. Look at Mizuno. For years their metalwoods were competent - good not great. But it seems like at some point over the last few years they got more serious about it and you're seeing more Tour adoption of their metalwoods and they've gotten great reviews both on WRX and other sites. I don't see why Wilson can't do the same. I'll be following it (as you can probably tell by my sig) but only time will tell if their heart is in it.
