Taylormade Sim Max Irons

Anyone playing these this year? Don't see another thread on it other than a Cobra Speedzone comparison. Curious on others' thoughts on the irons and compared to other GI & past Taylormade irons.

The lack of talk and ownership on these irons (not just this thread, lol) is surprising. I'd be curious to get a fitter's take or something. Seems to be very little info and feedback on these irons for being such a major brand, much less out there compared to past iterations and other manufacturers in this category.

Normally irons like these 'set' irons (SIM/Mavrik/whatever catchy name of the product cycle/etc) arent used by many users here. Anyone who is a 'golf enthusiast' will probably have more specialize equipment then the SGI variants like these.

With that said - I have seen MUCH more interest in the Speedzone, the 919 Hot Metal, and the Ping G410/700 SGI series of irons then the SIM/M6/etc series from Taylormade over the last 2 years.

M5 is an excellent iron. I’m a fan. A lot of what good players talk about wanting in an iron, it has it.

Only saw the SIM line once before the pandemic but what I recalled is none of them appeared to be replacements for the M5. I thought they all looked M6 or bigger.

I have a SIM Max 4 iron and it is money. Plenty of forgiveness, launch and distance.

I got mine so I'll answer my own question - they're long and pretty dang forgiving. Really liking the long irons, as a guy who usually plays two hybrids - I dropped my 23 degree 818H1 for the Sim Max 5 iron and it's been fantastic off the tee. I hit a 235 yard cut off the tee last week and was thinking holy smokes. Coming from the M2s, seems like a slight upgrade - short irons feel pretty much the same, longer irons give me more confidence. But that could be the honeymoon period, who knows.

That being said, I'm not totally sold and am doing a full bag fitting next week. They'll probably be hitting BST soon. :)
