Z star/Z star xv

How much more driver spin should I expect switching from z star xv to the regular z star? Want a softer golfball but dont want driver sidespin. I have quick tempo and driver as 95ish.

Think you got that backwards, the XV is the higher spinning ball, you should likely drop spin moving to the regular Z-Star.

Zilch. And you will get a more penetrating flight.

I just made the switch this year from the Z-Star to the XV. The XV is definitely a little firmer, more so on short pitches and the putter. Don't notice it that much on full swings. Like previous poster noted,, the XV is a little more penetrating, but I generally hit the ball high, so still plenty high enough for me. Pitching and chipping for me is still a work in progress as I have a tiny bit more run out than the Z-Star. Z-Star for me at times kind of checked up to much, so I like the fact that I still have some spin with XV and it's spin and run out is becoming very adjustable.

I've been playing both over the last week. Excellent greenside performance and spin with both, I couldn't tell a difference from 10yds to 150yds. However, played the Z Star yesterday and felt like it went nowhere off the driver, consistently around 250-260 when I'm used to 275ish on a good swing. Not sure if it was an off day or if it was the ball, I felt like I was striking it solid. Anyone else experienced this, or are these balls similar enough to where I shouldn't notice much of a difference and I was just having a shorter day? Want to make sure before buying more Z Stars this week before the deal runs out.

Similar experience here. The XV feels better off the driver to me, although I hit it a little shorter than you (240 yds +/-). The Zstar was a little shorter off the driver, and didn't perform in the wind as well.

As always this is a YMMV situation. Shiels did this test as well as lots of other balls and I think most would see the same.

He got slightly better ball speed with the XV as it is firmer and only ~150-200 rpms higher spin.

What you want to try is the new QStar Tour. Soft. Less driver spin. Good in wind and as long as most. Truly is a great mid price ball.

Sidespin doesn't really exist, and picking a ball trying to minimize it should be the last thing you worry about when picking a ball. The driver spin of the two balls should be close enough that you'll never be able to tell the difference. You might gain 1 MPH of ball speed given your swing speed, but I wouldn't worry about it at all. Around the greens, the XV will be have a little more spin, but I don't think you'll notice much. The place you'll feel the difference is off irons. The XV will spin a few hundred RPM's more.

Where are you gettibg this? My experience and everything I read tells me the Z spins more than the XV

Xv is a 4 piece ball and the Z star is a 3 piece ball , the XV has a high compression rate of 102 so you better be

smashing the hell out of it with your driver , I would think the XV is lower spinning .

You can check the results from the Today's Golfer huge ball test. Every swing speed and every club showed the XV as higher spinning.

According to Srixon the XV is the lower spinning of the two.

Green side spin and spin throughout the bag aren't necessarily the same thing.

I feel like it’s more difficult to really figure out the difference between the Z Star and XV performance relative to other balls. Reading through this and other threads leaves me scratching my head. I want more spin so I’m leaning toward buying more XVs (don’t care about feel) but it feels weird given it conflicts directly with Srixon’s info.

Haha. Agreed. I play the XV and like the feel, but wouldn’t ever call it “soft.”

I’m a 115 mph SS. Still can’t decide what I like more. Haven’t compared them on a launch monitor or anything. On the course definitely feel like I get more distance with my driver with the XV, but appreciate the little more check I get around the green with z star. Feel like iron performance is pretty similar.

So I’m pretty conflicted haven’t bought any on the bogo yet. But I feel like I just need to pick one and stick with them.

I’m at ~100-105 mph and trying to see if I’d be better off with the next tier ball - like the Q star tours. I’m already a high spin / ball player so I’ve always played the tour balls curious if anyone has benefited from the switch. The chart says over 100 I’d be better off playing the z star or XV.

I've played both balls, and like both. The XV might be just a bit longer, but I'd be fine playing either.

Buy One Get one Free on Srixon's site right now for fathers day. I've never tried either but decided to get the regular as it sounds like it has a softer feel and more spin around the greens which is more important than distance to me. 112 MPH Driver Swing Speed though so we'll see how that works out for me.

I normally play the xv, but just picked up 2 dozen of the reg z star. I think the additional spin will help with irons and wedges. Driver swing speed is 115ish on average so I shouldn't see much of a drop of distance wise I wouldn't think.

I was having a tough day a couple of weeks ago and put the Z Stars away and pulled out some QSTs. My first contact with the QST and I barely felt the ball against the club but after that it felt fine. The QST will definitely fly higher.

Moderate swing speed here. The xv is always longer for me.

Picked up 2 dozen of the xv model on the promo. Well compare it to the pro v1x and see which I like better although I definitely appreciate the fact that the xv is less than half the price
