Private Courses Cape Cod

Hello All

I am looking to join a private course on cape cod. I have 3 course that are 20 minutes away or less.

eastward ho

hyannis port

Looking for opinions on what folks think of these 3 courses. Also would like to know about dining as well....Need to keep the wife happy lol

Played Cape Cod National and I don't believe their membership is impossible to inquire personally.

Eastward Ho is a pretty exclusive place and would need sponsors that you know personally.

No idea about Hyannisport.

I have never played Cape Cod National, but played Hyannisport a few times and Eastward Ho many times a long time ago. I think Hyannisport is harder to get into, but the better golf is at Eastward Ho. Not sure where you live, but in the summer driving through Hyannis to get to Hyannisport can be tough. Cape Cod National and Eastward Ho are further down the Cape and have less traffic. Chatham is my favorite town on the Cape and Eastward Ho is only a few minutes from downtown Chatham. So Eastward Ho would be my choice.

If you don't know a half-dozen or more members, forget about Hyannisport or Eastward Ho. They have long waiting lists (and fat initiation fees). They all have requirements to use the restaurant, but they are nice. You could probably get into CCN or Ocean Edge with-out too much trouble.

Looks like i can get into Hyannisport......Eastward Ho not happening.....cummaquid golf club i can get into without much hassle....just not sure its up to par with HP...

I love HP, great course, great club. However, if you don't live in Hyannisport, you might feel like a bit of an outsider when you're there (I'd bet that 85% of the membership lives less than a mile from the club). As far as getting in - I'd bet at Hyannisport you need 6-10 letter writers and one or two main sponsors who really know you well. A friend of mine just got in and I think he said it was over 5 year process and farely opaque. I think Eastward Ho! is even longer these days. You can't beat the golf at EITHER place. Eastward Ho! is such a unique spot, a ton of fun, but you'd be very happy to play HP every day

I've not played Cummaquid, but have a couple of friends who are there. Course is not the equal of HP or Eastward Ho! but apparently has a very diverse membership and a course that is a lot of fun. I think you could probably join before the end of the season. I know a lot of guys who live in Yarmouth who are members of Cummaquid and Hyannis Yacht Club (which is a great dining spot to keep your wife happy)

I'll also add that the Cape towns actually have some fairly good muni's, so while you're waiting to get into HP, you'll have plenty of places to play

I have played all the privates on the Cape. Hyannisport Club is better course than Cummaquid. It is also higher on the food chain. Cummaquid has a more convivial bar scene. You can get into Cummaquid fairly quickly and it is less expensive. I am also a member of the yacht club. Please don't join there. It is already tough to get into the bar on weekends.

A friend got me on Hyannisport a few summers back. It is one of the nicest courses I've ever played and that includes several that have hosted PGA events that folks rave about.

I am also interested in a private club on the Cape.  Looking to buy a place on the cape but will depend on where we can join.  EH is out (10 years in total for full membership).  CCN is a favorite of mine but it is strictly a golf club, and they have little social activities (which I like but not good for my wife).   That leaves Ocean Edge, (what is the cost to join?, but the course seems nice), Hyannisport, (looks great but too crowded down there) and I am very interested in Sacconnesset.  Course looks great, club too but new.  Anyone know anything the costs?

Costs won't be shared in the open typically here and I wouldn't want them to be.

Another route is to contact realtors or reach out to the clubs themselves as you aren't talking top 100 clubs other than EH.

Cummaquid has for the wait list. They are looking for $35K initiation. At H-Port, there is a wait list, plus you have to know a few members. They used to be $50K to get in, but I think it's more now. The Municipal courses are all over-filled and really tough to get tee-times. Golf has become very popular on the Cape in the past year plus.

My guess is that it's a matter of respecting privacy.

Correct, depending on what you mean by privacy. While notions of discretion, etc. may be at work, there is also a legal issue. In order to retain their private status (legally and tax wise), clubs have to be selective (i.e. exclusive) in their membership. Advertising for members, functions, etc. can all be reasons for a court to judge a private club is not truly private. If that happens, they'll find themselves subject to a host of legal standards that historically they've been exempted from. It's the conflict between the right of free association (an extension of free speech and free beliefs; you can choose who you hang out with) and anti-discrimination/public accommodation.

Does anyone know if Cummaquid or CCN has a young professional or individual golf membership? Mid-twenties competitive golfer looking to find tee times on the weekends on the cape with a dedicated place to practice.
