UV sleeves or sunscreen?

Which do you prefer?

I like the sleeves. Mainly as I play early in the morning and can pull the sleeves on near the end of the round rather than slathering my arms and hands with sunscreen.

UV sleeves are so much cooler. You can wet the sleeves down and still have sun protection.

Sunscreen on your arms is like wrapping yourself in plastic wrap.

If you didn’t know zinc and titanium oxide based sunscreens are the only truly effective sunscreens. They’re greasy and don’t rub in well. I have sun sleeves and use zinc sunscreen and am always torn between the downsides of both. Sun sleeves are a bit of a fashion fail (I know I shouldn’t care but I do. I’m human) and the zinc sunscreen is super greasy.

After a long round the plus side of the sleeves is they peel right off. With the sunscreen it mixes with sweat and I’m a terrible mess. Usually have to at least wet a towel and scrub myself off before even getting in the car.

I have this same battle on my head between a large full brimmed hat and a baseball cap. The former I’m a bit of a dork but reasonably comfortable at the end of the day. The latter I’m just a mess.

There’s just no ‘cool’ solution to legit sun protection.

I go with long sleeve UV shirt under my polo rather than sleeves. This avoids the sliding down or too tight issues with sleeves. They are lightweight so not too hot. I get them with a scoop neck so the collar doesn't show, but that is ladies sizing only. You guys would likely be stuck with a tee shirt style.

I prefer sleeves, but haven't been able to find a pair that are large enough. I'm a Marine and workout quite a bit, and all the sleeves I found pinch my upper arms and aren't comfortable after a few holes.
I'd try @ThinkingPlus's idea, but the idea of wearing a long sleeve shirt in southeast Texas is an idea I can't get behind.

Well since you are playing in the cooler part of the state I can see where you might need something a bit warmer. ;-) You get used to it, but I am not going to say it is a cool solution. It is effective against the sun however.

I keep a pair of sun sleeves in my bag but only used them in Vegas once. Forgot to spray sun block last week and realized it on the 3rd hole. Broke out the sleeves and neck gaiter. It wasn't bad. Had a strong tan line on my wrist was glad I had the sleeves and didn't have to deal with too much sun. I'm not a marine and only work out sporadically and they were a little tight on my upper arm but not too bad.

Sleeves and a broad brimmed hat. I use sunscreen with shorts, neck and face. I hate the feel of sunscreen and I don't really enjoy the idea of rubbing chemicals into the pores of my skin, although I prefer it to skin cancer. I'm a walker and once I'm out on the course there won't be any intermittent shade from a cart.

Not sure if you all have heard of SParms because they are mostly affiliated with the LPGA but they have some of the best sleeves and I've never seen anyone else with the answer to sleeves that are too tight or having to wear a full under shirt other than them....they are available in multiple colors and men's sizes and are worth a look. I caught a sale on tgw.com and got mine for 20 buck apiece.

Sleeves and a Shelta hat. I have same issues with sunscreen most have already stated but realize we have to do something.

I like the cooling effect of sleeves for late rounds, and for early a.m. rounds in Oregon they help knock the chill off

For face, ears, neck and ankles I use an organic sunscreen (Alba or Sun Bum)

I typically wear a lightweight Imperial cap, but for practice sessions & rounds with more direct sunlight I use a Nike UV bucket hat (brim holds its shape, strap is removable, and material wicks moisture, is lightweight, & perforated; available for $30-$35)

UV sleeves for me, as chemical sunscreen products don't agree with me. It causes my skin to swell, which, can last for days.

Good looking out. I just ordered a shawl, so I’ll see how it goes. I do wish they would change the name though. I’m not to keen on wearing a “shawl.”

usually sleeves, but if they're not washed I got the blue lizard SS which works great.

Sleeves. Cant deal with the stickyness close to my hands/glove

i walk in the weekend mornings, so i wear sleeves & a sun hat (titleist) ... remove the hat when i swing, but keep it on for chipping/putting ... sunscreen for legs and back of neck ... it feels like a garden hat, but it's that time in life to really protect the skin ...

LOL I wear big Coolibar sun hats with long sleeve polo shirts and golf pants along with Non nano sunscreen on my face, neck and right hand. I don't like gloves but I have begun to wear one on my left hand to keep the sun off of it. I walk most of the time pushing the cart with my left hand and keeping my right hand in my pocket.

Yeah, I don't much care what I look like anymore and I never was very cool anyway.

Sunscreen for me, I get to break it out about once a year in Scotland. It’s always very exciting when I get the chance to use it.

What brand of non-nano sunscreens are out there?

Sleeves on the advice of my dermatologist, with long pants, wide brim hat. The dermatologist didn’t favor mineral vs chemical sunscreen, interestingly. Chemical sunscreen converts UV energy to heat and I just feel baked alive by the end of a round. So I use blue lizard zinc / titanium.

Anyone ever go for something like under armor heat gear? Dont love the idea of just the sleeves and I'm getting sick of sunscreen.

I have used Badger for a number of years. You can order it online or find it in Natural Food type places.

Started wearing a Shelta Raptor V2 hat and Solbari Coolasun UV sleeves without thumbholes about a year ago. Much easier, more comfortable, and likely better protection. The Shelta Raptor V2 hat is sort of a sporty take on the bucket hat...it feels more like a baseball cap, if that is important to you.

I thought the same thing but as long as they work that is all that matters!
