Name all the putters you’ve owned

Recommended Posts

Here’s a Sunday challenge: can you name all the putters you’ve owned?

Just the ones you’ve played. Not asking about the putters you’ve owned for a day them flipped without gaming. Although if you tried it for even one hole then gave up, feel free to include it. Good luck!

Putting is part of my game where "don't fix what ain't broke".

I've been playing golf since age 28 (started late), and now at 66 (38 years) I have owned only 4 putters:

Cheap putter that came with Northwestern (?) golf club set my wife got me as a birthday present the first year we were dating (back around age 28)....had for ~2 years. Funny, so she gave me the set, I started playing 9 holes after work, then after 2 weeks of that I wanted to play on the weekend. So the starter asked if I mind joining a group of 3 and said sure; members of the group asked me 'what do you shoot?' and I said 'normally about 77-78, and they said great, you'll fit right in. So after 3 holes they asked, "do you really shoot 77-78 for 18 holes?" and I said "are you crazy, where'd you get that idea?, that's for 9 holes!", lol. true story (innocently naieve and new to golf back then; I remember seriously re-considering golf back then thinking this is going to be expensive because I would put 'smiles' (cuts) into the balata balls' surface they had back then, like 8-10 per round).Spalding excecutive golf club with putter (2nd inexpensive/cheap set) that got me through grad school (~6 years)Ping Anser putter... had this for 30 years (still have it, had no reason to change it)Odyssey Stroke Lab Double Wide (6 months) .... got this this past Christmas for a "buy one, get one free" deal on Callaway pre-owned (got 2 of them, one for me and one for my son). Love this sucker and make a ton of putts (just yesterday in our MGA 1-man scramble, I sank a 20-foot for birdie on the first hole and a 25-30 footer on the last hole for birdie). The head is a bit heavier and I like it, but similar style as the Ping Anser, except smooth shaft to the putter head instead of that angled metal arm, and it has a slight, minimally-intrusive backward extension). But I love the large putter grip as well, that always bodes well with me on both the Ping Anser and this Double Wide.

Bookmark for now. Guys, this is gonna take a while. Nice brain exercise.

Odyssey White Hot XG #3. My very first putter. I didn't know what I was doing, the style did not even fit my stroke. Odyssey White Hot Tour Rossie. I heard mallets were all the rages (this was in late 2000s), so I got one. Odyssey Versa #7. This is my main gamer for many years. Now, it is my backup. SeeMore Giant FGP. I used this for a summer. T.P. Mills "dalehead". My gamer for this year.

? lol. But you make an excellent point. Fair warning if your SO checks up on this forum.

But honesty is the best policy. Perhaps also list what you paid for each putter.... Mine were all hand me downs, trades, and bought on store credit.

I'm only going to bother to list my "gamers" that lasted more than a few rounds:

- Goldsmith "The Locator" (knockoff Ping Anser 5)

- Taylormade Rossa Daytona

- Odyssey White Hot RX 2-Ball

- Odyssey O-Works Jailbird Mini S

- Toulon Columbus

- Odyssey Double Wide Armlock

- Ping Heppler ZB3

I've noticed a worrying trend in putter staying power. My first putter lasted 10 years, then the next two or three, then one year, then six months... I'm on month three (?) of the Heppler and am determined to stick with it all year.

Too many to recall, probably between 55 and 65 in 34 years of playing golf. Many were tried and/or gamed. Some were for the sake of collecting. At present I own 2 Byron Morgan putters (including my gamer of nearly 6 years), 1 Scotty Cameron (AC VII), 1 TP Mills (Heritage), 1 Ping (Zing 85020 black band), 2 Wilson (Tour Special II).

Shamefully, the caveat of owning a putter but selling it before it gets gamed applies to me on multiple occasions. Also shamefully, duplicates on my list are putters that I have bought, sold, and bought again.
